Inspiring Conversations with Martinique Ilona of Rooted Connections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martinique Ilona.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Peace and Love! My name is Martinique Ilona a.k.a The Divinity Coach. I am the owner and founder of Rooted Connections LLC. How are you? I hope all is well. Such a pleasure to connect. I give thanks for the opportunity.

I honestly started going through a kundalini awakening a few years back.

I obtained my certification as a life coach during this period and I was gaining experience with my certification at a local high school in the metro Atlanta area coaching the student lead flag and dance line. I created programs for the young ladies and would host workshops as well. But since my awakening started happening, I just did not want to coach in the same way anymore. I wanted to do something different.

During this time, I was questioning EVERYTHING! I started learning about Ancient Kemet and Kemetic Deities such as Auset, Sehkmet, Hathor, and Ma’at. I really resonated with the story of Sehkmet and the healing modalities that was used during that time period. So I really dove into nature, holistic healing, the moon and the emotional body, and my very own spiritual gifts and healing.

The research I found inspired me to create an event. At the time, they were called full moon rituals. I would host an event surrounding the full moon providing my guests with various nutritious food that were good for the body, mind and soul. Also, food purchased for the event supported black businesses in the community. The full moon ritual events were a reflection of ancient times when women would honor the cycles within themselves just as they honored the cycles of the earth. During these ancient times women were so connected that they synchronized during the time of menstruation. The women would then retreat together to release, nourish each other, and nourish themselves. This event was about the attendees and what they would like to release, let go of, and how they can shed what no longer serves them. The shedding of the womb mentally and emotionally.

The event created a safe space for women to cry, reflect, laugh, and just truly be themselves. All masks were off! All titles were off! It was a true community of sisters supporting each other and connecting on a spiritual level. Men were also invited to release emotionally or assist in a sisters emotional release as well. I also made sure to incorporate the tea to Honor the story of Sehkmet (She who is powerful). The ancient deity who is known as the Goddess of Healing. Eventually, the events became what are now known as Rooted Connections Tea and Talk.

Out of the Tea and Talk events Rooted Connections was born. I named my business Rooted Connections because one must be rooted in the authentic true divinity of themselves in order to connect freely to their soul tribe. It also ties into Root Chakra work with emotions surrounding fear, security, safety, and tribe. It is the base. The foundation. And the connections aspect, well that’s everything. We are all connected. The more you do your work the more you will see just how connected we are.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Buju Banton has a song that says, “it’s not an easy road. And many see the glamour and the glitter so them think a bed of rose. Mi says who feels it knows. Whoo whoo Lord help me sustain these blows.” These lyrics says it all for me. My interpretation of the song reflects the image of not “wearing” your trauma. Still letting your light shine with the glitter and the glamour through the obstacles.

I have worked really hard to get to where I am now. Working through childhood struggles, generational curses, and my own personal prison of self-doubt and feelings of unworthiness in certain areas. I put in the work emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually for Holistic Healing. And there is more work to be done but I am super proud of myself. The Glitter and the Glamour of my inner Christos just keep getting stronger!

The lyrics in this song also reflect the enviousness and jealousy of people who may not be so happy about your growth. They may try to pull you down, even try and steal your ideas, your image, your light because they want to emulate it but stay on course and know no one can ever be you. You are your own footprint therefore go and make your mark.

I also have to add that healing seems to be on “trend” now. Meaning there are people who want to incorporate healing just because of the money potential. They have no interest in actually assisting with the healing of the people on this planet. Guiding another being is a huge responsibility and should not be taken lightly.

Lastly, finding that sweet spot of a balance between being a person and being a business owner while finding your own voice. One must have clarity of the difference between what your ego wants and what your soul desires for fulfillment. There are plenty of people checking off list for the wants of the ego and are still not filled up on life because the soul is suffering. The heart space is depleted because it was not included in the decision-making process. Find out what sets your soul on fire and fills your heart space with love. Emit on that frequency and the balance of business owner and personal growth is clear.
