Life and Work with Christin Singh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Singh.

Christin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Often times, we don’t realize that a passion is slowly but surely developing, it’s all part of the journey towards discovering yourself. I moved to Atlanta from New York City in 2005. I was in complete culture shock coming from the bustling streets of New York to a southern suburb. It took some getting used to, but life has a way of bringing you to the place you need to be. I remember taking photos of everything with my iPhone 3Gs (wow, that was a while ago). My camera roll was flooded with photos of vibrant sunsets, food, my travels and just about everything you could imagine. In 2012, my parents gave me a DSLR camera for Christmas. I discovered my niche in product and lifestyle photography. I needed a creative outlet and began sharing my work on social media. Companies and brands began reaching out to me to create styled photos of their products as well as develop marketing and public relations campaigns. I never expected it to take off the way it did. Throughout this time, I was attending university and graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, and Marketing. It was wonderful to be able to find a creative avenue to put my degree to use and be able to work with great brands.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Following your dreams and passion is never a smooth road, but it is always the road worth taking. Living a fulfilling life means accomplishing your dreams through hard work and inspiring others to do the same. Being a creative, driven and independent woman comes with its fair share of challenges. Throughout my journey, I’ve had to overcome many obstacles, especially learning how to trust my gut instinct. I think most creatives tend to second guess their work and even themselves. I have learned through experience that your gut will never lead you wrong. If I had any advice for the young woman who is just starting her journey, it would be to stay focused on your goals, trust your gut instinct, and never give up on your dreams. If you are determined enough to nurture your dreams, goals, and aspirations, you will see the fruit of your efforts in the long run. Dreams take time to happen, so don’t get discouraged if things don’t start happening right away.

Please tell us about Christin Creative Co.
I launched my creative business Christin Creative Co. back in 2015 where I do a range of creative work. I am a photographer, product stylist, web + graphic designer, as well as a marketing and PR consultant. My passion is working with companies and individuals to develop a brand identity that represents both the soul + vision behind the brand. Through content strategy and creation, my goal is to tell a brand’s story in order to expand their target market horizon. Something that I am most proud of is the opportunities that I’ve been blessed with to work with companies I have only ever dreamed about such as Daniel Wellington, HaloTop, L’Occtaine and HelloFresh to name a few. I am inspired every day by the many creatives and dream chasers I have been able to connect with all over the world. I am always humbled when I receive messages from other creative entrepreneurs who tell me I have inspired them to never give up on their dreams. It truly makes the journey worthwhile.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Networking is extremely crucial to any form of business. One piece of advice is to not be afraid to put yourself out there. I know sometimes this can seem like a daunting task, however, you will be surprised how well received you are. In networking situations, a key to being successful is to genuinely be yourself, be confident in both your work and speech. Also, bonus points if you smile and have a business card!
