Life & Work with Arkose of Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arkose

Hi Arkose, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We met in high school back in 2012 at Hillgrove High School. We were mutual friends. One semester, we did jazz band together. Tad switched from trumpet to guitar because there were already 20 trumpet players. For the concert, we played the Chicago tune, ‘25 or 6 to 4’ and Tad played a guitar solo that blew everyone’s hair back including mine. My [Noah’s] dad told me, “If you ever start a band, that should be your guitarist!”. That stuck with me. Years later, I hit Tad up to finish some music I was working on (For the Love EP) and the rest is history.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our toughest struggles were our biggest blessings. We started right when the pandemic began. So, we learned how to write and collaborate in different ways. Also, it gave us a lot of time to find our sound. We were grateful for that time. Not sure if that’s a struggle, but if it was, we made the most out of it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are an Acid Jazz duo from Atlanta, Georgia. Acid Jazz is a melting pot between Jazz, RnB, Dance, HipHop and Rock. We are most known for our song, ‘Pretty Girl’. We are most proud of the latest album we just put out, Ecliptic. That took us four years to make. It feels like the best representation of who we are musically. I think our live shows and compositions set us apart. We have a lot moving parts on stage. We even have a live DJ, DJ Vision. Our songwriting stems from how they used to write back in the 70’s. A lot of lyrics that forced you to think, “What did they mean by that?” Nowadays, everything is handed to you on a platter. Leaves very little space for the listener to use their imagination. I miss creating my own spin from people’s lyrics. Some artists like Tyler, The Creator, Nick Hakim, Clairo, are great about this!

What does success mean to you?
Having one person listen to our music and like it. Thankfully it’s been way more than one person, but that’s where success starts. I feel like success is being able to making an honest living and being comfortable. From there, it’s just gravy on top. Just want to be happy most days of my life rather than sad.
