Life & Work with Charlie Calz Beats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Calz Beats.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Charlie Calz and I am an American music producer based in Atlanta, GA. I am originally from Los Angeles and I started my music journey in my high school years. From a child, I always had a love for music. My mother had a room in the house called the “music room” where all of the high-end music equipment was stored. We jammed out to the likes of Michael Jackson, Aaron Neville, War, and many other classics on a regular basis. At that time, I knew music touched my soul like nothing else. Fast forward a few decades and I am now a music creator with over 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and other platforms.

I am a big fan of Jazz, smooth Jazz, and the golden era of hip hop. Some of my influences are J Dilla, Brian Simpson, Boney James, Nas, The Roots, and many more. I try to incorporate different elements of my influences into all of my work as an ode to the greats to do it before me.

Currently, I produce Lo-Fi hip hop, Jazz Hop, and Boom Bap. I chose this genre because I gravitated to it the most. I enjoy the Lofi community and hope to help people get through some difficult times (or even happy moments) with my music.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road to become a music producer. In a field that is highly competitive, it takes a lot of work to standout from the crowd. It also takes dedication like no other, even when things seem to be at a standstill. The true obstacle was trying to understand how I can give my music the attention it deserved while still maintaining my other responsibilities like being a father. Having to work full time, raise my children, and maintain some type of sanity was not (…and is still not) an easy task. I found myself working during the day and in the studio at night for days on end. I am still trying to understand how to balance it all but it helps to just stop and really plan out your time to be as productive as possible.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a hip hop music producer who specializes in Lofi hip hip. I’m known for my chill, laid-back instrumentals that incorporates a lot of Jazz elements. This was a choice because of how Lofi music affected my life. A particular Jazz Hop playlist on Spotify, created by Chill Select, got me through some really tough times. It almost felt like I had a connection with the artists I listened to and I wanted to provide that same relief to other people in the world who may need it. Music can be a very powerful tool for emotional stability in my opinion.

What I am most proud of is connecting and networking with other members of the Lofi community. I’ve gained such valuable connections that otherwise would not have existed if it wasn’t for music. I am proud of the work we created as a result of the great connections.

What sets me apart is the fact that I understand what it is like to just be human. To live in a world where things don’t always go as planned, but the beauty in the experience still exists. I make music to help you relax, unwind, and free your mind. I really care about mental health and I create music to not only help with that but to connect with.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
A surprising fact about me is that I am a history buff, science fanatic, and a self-proclaimed conspiracy theorist LOL. I really enjoy everything Sci-Fi and anything else that really makes me think. For some reason, I also really like movies that take place in space.

Another interesting fact is that I am very spiritual and practice things like meditation and breathing exercises.

Oh, and Titanic is one of my favorite movies but not for the storyline. I think Cameron did an amazing job with the details of the ship itself. Once again, history buff, lol.
