Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Davis.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story starts in a small town Georgetown, GA and even then my family knew I would be someone great! I’ve graduated with honors, and let’s say I’ve traveled a lot at a young age so I believed in myself to tackle anything life throws at me. In middle school, I realize I could sing. But only so many people knew until I had to sing in our school’s Christmas program, I had to sing lead. That day I knew I belong on stage because the smile I put on my mom’s face brought tears to my eyes. I always want to make my mom proud. I’ve sung I’m many places across the south, Louisiana to D.C as a child, but there were times I felt like giving up. Even in high school, I was prom queen long with having to sing the “Stars Spangled banner” at many school events. My inspiration would come from my daughter; she is my world, and I want to chase her dreams as much as I chase mines. I believe in 2018, that’s when I knew that music was my passion and I didn’t want to let go. Songwriting is my therapy even when I’m sad or even happy.
I release my professional track on SoundCloud Nov 2018, which was called “Body Language” and followed by in 2019 “Compatible,” which I wrote but had a feature on. Same year is when I decide to change my name stage name to my alter ego, “Ahyoka Da Goddess,” my family always tell me about my Native American roots, which Ahyoka means: “She brought happiness.” This is exactly the feeling I want to give my audience. The song did so well that I had no choice to make a video for it. I performed at BB King House of Blues in Montgomery at wind creek casino and other local events. The song made it the radio, which brought me so much joy and motivation. In 2020, My music took a turn because it was very hard to push music through the pandemic. Now I’m back and better than ever here in 2021 with my new track, “Mine” which available on all platforms released this month. I am independent with a team; however, if label is willing to back me, I would consider getting signed one day. I’m overly excited for what’s in store for me next!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think it has been a rough road, but I believe it will get better for me. As I am a women, it’s hard to trust people in the music industry because you can’t tell if someone is really genuine and who is not. I guess I was raised Old fashioned; my mom ALWAYS said to just treat people how you want to be. This is something I hold dear and make sure I install in everybody I come in contact with. I say one other struggle is with my health and having a child I suffered from problems with that everyday. I had to take couple years off from my music because I needed to take care of myself. This is life so I expect things to go left at times, it’s how you handle situations that makes life meaningful. You tend to appreciate stuff like that more as we grow.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a recording singer/songwriter. I been writing since I was 13 years old. I been recording since I was 17 years old, however, recording professionally since 2018.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
God who is the head of my life. My mom (Cynthia Davis) who always provides me with the highest motivation. As a child growing I had mentors who took me under their wing Mrs. Josey and Pastor Kathy Personson, I believe God allowed me to meet them to tell me I was capable of being who I am today. Friend Kiersten Hunter who have invested in me as well Markell Roundtree, who has pushed me into the studio even when I was not feeling my best to get in the studio.
