Meet A.M.N Productions of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to A.M.N Productions.

Hi A.M.N, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A.M.N Productions, LLC is a family owned music production company that was started by brother and sister ZeNi Maj0R and ARiA LoNdoN in 2023. ARiA got into music at a very early age. She always had a very high interest in playing the piano and she poured her heart into learning everything she could about it. At the time, she also desired to be a singer/rapper and it wasn’t long until she gained the tools to begin creating her own beats from scratch. She had a WK-3000 keyboard-workstation and learned to use it very well. Meanwhile, ZeN would lend his ideas to her productions. Unlike ARiA, ZeN’s ideas started out less melodic, but more percussion based and rhythmic. He always had an interest in playing the drums and would add interesting percussive elements to ARiA’s productions.

ARiA began to build herself as a pianist, a singer and an artist. However, high school was a rough period for her and as she continued to excel in music, so much was expected of her. This led to her decision to leave music behind entirely and pursue a career in healthcare. Although ZeN was heartbroken behind the decision, he gained the courage to pursue music without his dear sister.

In high school, ZeN began making his own beats on his AKAI XR20 drum machine which he still has to this very day. While he enjoyed it, the machine had so many limitations. So ZeN began learning about DAWs and music production in general. The very first DAW he worked in was FL Studio (known then as Fruity Loops).. As ZeN got better, he realized there was something missing… he missed the nostalgia of buttons, sliders and analog gear. He also did not like the pattern based sort of workflow that FL Studio had at the time. That’s when he decided to switch to Studio One and learned how to make beats in such a way that mirrored his experiences with midi controllers and gear. He wanted making music to feel less robotic and more human to him again.

Realizing later on that they essentially had the same goals, ARIA and ZeN re-united to get back into music production! ZeN was excited but so many years had gone by and ARiA didn’t know very much about the computer/DAW side of things at all. So ZeN began teaching ARiA the fundamentals of production on the digital side and the rest became history. Two unique styles, one powerful sound. Here at A.M.N, we give people the sound they deserve….by any means necessary.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
ARiA: Well it most certainly hasn’t been easy, but the obstacles we face don’t deter us from reaching our goals. Some of the challenges we face currently include building relationships with artists, strategizing our time to meet both the music production and social media/marketing goals of our business, learning to express ourselves as individuals while hearing out each other’s ideas, and finding ways to make our music highly accessible and affordable to others.

ZeN: It’s never easy being the new kid on the block. Likewise, it isn’t easy to introduce different ideas to people either. In general, people aren’t open to different. Not at first. They want what’s safe. They want what they know. They want what is both tried and true. It’s just like food. If I said “Hey, I want you to try this new recipe I made”, you would probably take a look at it and say “What’s that?” and what I say after would probably determine whether you put your mouth on it or not, right? But we have to remember that everything that is tried and true all started from ONE person taking a step forward to try it. Someone else had to verify and say like “YOOO ya’ll sleepin on this strawberry streusel apple pie!” and eventually others jump on the band wagon wit em. So that’s to say that we’re the cooks…and it’s up to us to get people to trust our musical recipes. That’s how I look at it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
A.M.N specializes in creating authentic, non-AI generated beats for artists. We don’t just find loops and piece them together in 5 or 10 minutes. We carefully craft our own melodies and drum patterns all from scratch. That isn’t to say we don’t use loops at all or aren’t open to all the various new tools that are offered today in music production. We just believe that regardless of what tools you decide to use, that music should come from the soul and it should SOUND like it. Everything we make has a story, a place and/or vibe to it. Now, don’t get me wrong. We make mistakes too. We ain’t perfect! The imperfections and mistakes are all apart of it, but there’s a beauty to it. A.M.N isn’t about perfection. It’s all about being human.

If we never make another dime from our music, we are simply proud that we took our favorite hobby as kids and turned it into a business! As adults, most of us work a 9-5 that we basically can’t stand or simply tolerate in order to pay bills. But we enjoy our work and to us that is HUGE. Aside from our jobs, we have something that we created together that we can pour into–that if we play our cards right, can help the next generation and our families learn, grow, and profit.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
ARiA: When ZeN was reeeally little he was a video game head, so we spent most of the day in his room playing video games. In between rounds, we would scroll to the video game soundtrack and analyze the music. We would literally just eat snacks and vibe to each and every instrumental. Sometimes I’d write lyrics to the music. Other times, we’d go to my Wk-3000 and make a beat inspired by whatever we heard. But I really treasured those times because they gave us an appreciation for many different sounds and genres of music. Some of the games that we noted to have exceptional music were Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot 1,2, and 3, and Kingdom Hearts.

ZeN: The one memory I will never forget was when our step dad taught my sis what she really sounded like singing. He recorded my sis and played it back. I personally didn’t think it was that bad! I mean she was only like eight or nine but she HATED it. lol. She was like “OMGGG, is that MEEEE?!?!?!” 🤣
