Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Williams and Cyd Raine.
The story of the Catnipz began in college in 2010. Alexis worked as a student and hairstylist, catering to students at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Cydnee started as a client of Lexi’s but the rapport was much stronger that typical client relationships. We quickly merged friend groups and hung out regularly including Sunday dinners. After school, everyone migrated to Atlanta to begin careers and somehow started collecting cats as pets. This only made the friendship stronger and the adventures more risky. We have always lived by the motto efficiently wreckless. We would prepare for as much fun as possible. Together we would drive across the country, scam people at the club, enjoy the best concerts and festivals, all while enjoying our shared adoration for cannabis. When Cyd decided to relocate to California in 2014, we saw no other way than driving her across the country ourselves. So coast to coast we maintained our friendships, always empowering each other in the oddest ways. The support has always been authentic and we noticed it was infectious when we were in social settings. We gathered crowds from our banter and frolicking, and would always hear “you should do a podcast”.
In 2016 during our typical 4/20 vacations, Lexi planted the seed that one day we would tell our stories and share our dopeness with the world. Speed up to 2018, Lexi connected with Peachy pop media, who’d long loved our adventures and was thrilled to produce or podcast. So we built everything for it, websites, logos, commercials, launch parties and more to show how serious we were about the podcast. The hard work has been paying off in full measure. In one year we brought in 5000 streams and connected with major cities in the US. We are currently in the third season and launching more support Initiatives for our listeners. We recently tested our Yoga Series “purr it out yoga” and do events regularly to connect with small businesses and our supporters.
Has it been a smooth road?
Our running list of mottos include “you don’t have to get ready when you stay ready” and “shit is always going to happen, so plan for it”. The road hasn’t been smooth but it’s been very intentional and carefully planned. We had to face overwhelming schedules, as we juggle multiple jobs and masters studies. Our show is recorded totally online, so getting the east coast to match the west wasn’t easy. All of our content comes from real-life events and epiphanies, so just getting through our own ish to authentically record was a challenge at times. In retrospect we were always telling ourselves gems we needed when we listen back during editing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Catnipz Podcast – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Catnipz is a digital safe space for everyone who listens. As a brand we offer empowerment and perspective to current events and struggles that reflect the experiences of millennials. We are known for our unfiltered ability to find meaning to everything in life, be it cats, self-love, relationships, pop culture and politics. Our fearless approach to life and vulnerability to share with others. Above all we are known for being efficiently wreckless.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
