Meet Iesha Coleman of ALIVE Hair Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iesha Coleman.

Iesha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the first generation Hairstylist, Registered Nurse, Business Owner, and Graduate Student of my family. I am 26 years old, and I have been a Hairstylist for nine years and an RN for almost three years. I started building clientele and taking the Hair Industry serious at the age of 17 during my senior year of high school. Knowing that I wanted to become a nurse after caring for my Uncle Carl with Colon Cancer, motivated me even more in the Hair Industry. I used my finances from being a Hairstylist while working full-time at Best Buy to support me and my struggling family as I began college in 2011 to pursue Nursing. Everything would come naturally to me as a Hairstylist. I had never taken any classes because I can look at a style and know how to do it without any hands-on experience. I continued to build clientele after obtaining my Barber’s License to practice weaving, and after I finished Nursing School on December 2016, I began building my brand. “ALIVE” is the meaning of my first name, “iesha.” It means “she who lives.”

As a child of God with purpose, this opened my eyes to so much because as a child, my family and I struggled financially, mentally, and physically. So, to still be “ALIVE” today in my God willed purpose mentally, spiritually, and holistically building a life and legacies to ensure our new generations will not have to struggle is a blessing for me and my family. I wholeheartedly believe that God chose me to be the black sheep of my family. As a child seeing my family struggle, I was motivated to pursue all that I could to build a life that does not include all of the hardships of struggling that we had to endure. Today, I am an experienced Hairstylist with a growing business and an experienced Registered Nurse obtaining an extensive education as a Grad Student in pursuit of my MSN and MBA. I will continue to build legacies and be the greatest so that my family can see firsthand that regardless of the struggles and where we come from, we can still be successful.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being that my parents were not financially fortunate to provide everything needed for me to become who I am today, I have been working since I was 14 to support myself and my family. I have developed stress ulcers at age 17 that have caused more permanent gastric stomach issues. I now have IBS and gastritis due to stress. However, I am on a 9 step regime that helps prevent any flare-up. Some people have no one to call when in need of help in any way, and I am one of those people.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the ALIVE Hair Collection story. Tell us more about it.
“ALIVE” was created by Iesha C. as a brand to empower, uplift, and serve all clients of diversities. The name “ALIVE” was founded as the definition of my real name “IESHA”. “IESHA” is defined as “she who lives, to live, alive”. After the struggle of my childhood, early teenage years, and part of my adult years, this brand was created as a testimony to my story and shows how my struggle has brought me “ALIVE” into the woman I am today. I am now a Registered Nurse, Hairstylist, Business Owner, and Graduate Student. The website has a tab for Prayer Requests. Never stop following your DREAMS. STEADFAST IN FAITH and PRAYER.
