Developing a business from concept through completion is no easy task. It takes lots of time, energy, people, planning, finance and hard work. Cycle élan was started by Ann Ruff a former Coloradoan and Asson Michel a New York transplant. After working in the Atlanta area as a trainer for several years, he noticed the need for a community where people could come together and enjoy the things they liked most; being productive, maintaining their health or changing their fitness habits and having a great time while doing so. Indoor cycling and yoga provides that avenue. The concept for cycle élan came to life after years of training clients like Ann and other friends who are avid riders. The two got together and developed the idea for an indoor cycling studio. They settled on Smyrna, Georgia for the location. After settling on their Smyrna location the two brought on Kirk Douglas as a partner. Kirk brings 16 plus years of indoor cycling experience to cycle élan along with energy and excitement. Their passion for good living, health and wellness as well as their magnetic interpersonal and people skills emanate throughout the studio and touch each person riding with them or one of their trainers. Asson functions as the Operations Manager, Ann Ruff functions as the Sales and Customer Experience Manager and Kirk Douglas as the Athletic Director and CFO. Together the trio is the nucleus of cycle élan and work tirelessly to ensure their clients have the best experience possible.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been an easy road, we all still work daytime jobs so trying to manage a business that requires so much time and attention makes for a very difficult road for time management. The other piece that can be difficult is getting the word out about our studio, we are a small business so marketing on a budget has proven to be a challenge. Lastly finding great instructors has also proven to be difficult because they are already taken. We value our staff and do everything possible to encourage them and keep them motivated and happy.

One thing that separates cycle élan from other cycling studios is our yoga program, it is rare in the indoor cycling arena to offer yoga. Most studios offer barre but yoga is few and far between. We pride ourselves on three operating principles; are we raising the bar? Will this make the customer feel good? And, are we doing everything we can to make sure our clients have the best possible experience? We want our members to feel like they belong to a part of something big yet exclusive at the same time.

Yes, the desire to get fit and better your health is running rampant through the city of Atlanta. We are the first of our kind in the Smyrna community but there is room for growth in the surrounding communities which we plan to do next year.
