Meet Ashanti Phelps

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashanti Phelps.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am from Atlanta, GA. As a teenager, I had dreams of one day having my own accounting firm. My internship in high school with NABA is what led me to pursue my degree in accounting. To this day, I appreciate the things that the program and community had on my development into a young professional thus far. College helped me realize my gift in bringing the ideas of others into tangible and profitable businesses. Throughout my college experience, my peers would fill my calendar requesting a time to build up their creative ideas into businesses for them to make money while in school. In 2018, I graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting. In 2019, I graduated from the University of Houston with a Master’s Degree in Accounting.

From there, I was able to take that gift and mold it into a niche. I applied this niche to the various internships and jobs I completed during my academic and professional career. The work experience that I gained from engaging with small mom and pop businesses positioned me to see how essential they are to the community. Our small and mid-size businesses sustain our communities. Without them, people in our communities would need to move to other areas with better opportunities and services. I was raised to always make it a priority to give back to my community. This business was created not only to be a source of revenue but also as a way of giving back to communities all over the country that need assistance in helping our local businesses and communities thrive. I know that the experience I have brought from my academic and professional career can be the gateway to providing the foundation and continuous growth for businesses and for people to find their way to financial freedom.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Establishing a business has not been a smooth road for me in the slightest. Before starting my business, I worked contract jobs. I did mostly bookkeeping, accounting, and HR work while I figured out the path I wanted to take in putting my business together. The pandemic experience ignited the confidence and drove in me to make my business official. The biggest struggle was figuring out marketing and how to reach out to people. This was because I had so much focus on developing my niche in accounting.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My firm specializes and offers companies an array of Business Management, Taxes, and accounting services that can assist in improving the overall performance and efficiency of a company. We provide services at all levels, whether that be for an Individual, Start-Up, or a Seasoned Business. Our focus is in assisting businesses in establishing, expanding, and evolving so that they may continue to thrive in their industry. In my professional career, I have had people describe me as efficient, responsive, and adaptable. I honestly take pride in these things and have made it a priority to make this a basis for the quality of service I provide to my clients. Over the past six years, I have worked in various industries that include Banking, Electrical, Health Care, Non-for-profit, Auto Care, Public Accounting, and Marketing.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid-19 has taught me how important Marketing is and connecting with people. I have always been big with volunteering in my community, even when I went to school out of state. Being involved with the people that live around you during hard times has shown me the possibilities when connecting with people on a day to day basis. The first official clients I picked up were people I had spoken to in my family’s neighborhood just while walking down the street. From them, a web of connections was created that brought more clients. Between this and my digital marketing, I have had more success than I imagined in my first year of business.
