Today we’d like to introduce you to Basheer Muhammad.
Basheer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey started in Oakland, California where I was born… Saint Louis where I was raised… in Saint Louis, I discovered my talent for music/singing writing, anything creative I was into or still is, I was always the best drawer in the class, the best writer. I remember writing a poem in 9th grade, my teacher told me I should be taking College AP courses after she read my poem, so yeah, I feel like a genius, it has always been a part of my makeup/DNA but honestly, I was a class clown so they never worked out… the reason why I was a class clown because the school work was remedial, for me, it was too easy, so I never took it seriously but you could catch me dreaming off to music at all times of the day. I’d say it wasn’t till after high school was when I really took music seriously, I ended linking up with a friend of mine who goes by the name SHVL, he helped me a lot with learning how to engineer and just overall recording. We were hella cool best friends type shit but we fell off… still best regards always though… I will always give credit where it’s due… but upon realizing my potential prowess for music, I discovered even more how much I love myself and those around me. In my music, I’ve made it a point to always try to teach what can someone take away from what they just heard. Does it invoke any spirits? Does it make you feel better? Wiser/cooler after you listen to one of my songs? I strive for creating from my heart, and soul what feels natural.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road for me has always felt like a pitchfork but I continue nothing comes easy, and I don’t think I could really appreciate it if it came easy for me. I enjoy the failures. Just makes me more relentless…
I’ve struggled with finding the right Manager, group of souls who I can believe in and they believe in my type of team, I do not always have the answers you know? I am a one-man wrecking ball, yeah, it may still get the job done but it takes a lot more mental power… I struggle with staying discipline but I think that mostly comes from worldly things I can’t change… so I make it work with what I got, I am grateful life moving forward. The marathon continues.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I actually partly own a Goldwater business, just launched a week ago, it’s booming. Thank you for asking, but I am known for my music and mostly my mindset. The way that I think, people gravitate to, I am aware of the gifts I’ve been bestowed by God, I can see the world from a birds-eye perspective and I am highly transparent for a black man… which is rare. I am open-minded and I like to consider myself as a positive force in this universe… I care for my people, on an unprecedented scale, I have a strong affinity for black love and culture that is deep-rooted in me. I believe in the unknown forces that guide the strings of my life. Magic, thoughts, words, all one and the same, I use these to my advantage whereas others are not even aware. I would like to also note that I am dropping my first official project of the year on June 22nd, would love to have you all.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success by how happy I’ve accomplished it made me? Did it add to my soul or only comfort it? Does it add to other’s lives, does it spark a change somewhere in someone’s mind? Does it make me feel alive? Grateful? What value does it add to my life, I like for all of these things now… I do not need validation but I want to validate love and prosperity that is what I feel like success is to me and I stand behind that 10000000 percent.
