Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgit Crider.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bridgit. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey to where I now begin back in 1988.
It was my last year in college at Clark where I was studying Biology and went back to school to become a Nail Technician to make side money. I did nails, brow arching and lashes for almost 15 years before I got into makeup. Over those years I had owned and operated 2 full-service salons and a Brow Arching studio (before brow studios became popular, there were only a few of us) in Atlanta. I made a total career game change.
I didn’t get in the makeup industry seriously until the year 2000. I started a line of makeup for women of color called Platinum Shades Cosmetics, that was merchandised in several high-end boutiques throughout Atlanta, long before social media and the internet made being a small business owner an easier task. After 911, small businesses like mine went out the door, that is when I decided to make a full career change and focus on becoming a makeup artist for editorial, commercial and television work.
I started working with select photographers, signed up with an agency, worked on music videos and networked my way to where I wanted to be. Those connections brought me very good work and my craft kept growing. Since that time, I have been published in several national & local magazines such as People, Rolling Stone, Essence, Vibe, Fayette Woman, Jezebel and The Atlantan. Networks such as HGTV, Discovery, NBC, ABC. My ultimate gig was The HGTV White House Christmas Special with The Obama’s in 2016.
Today I am a current member of the IATSE 798 Makeup and Hair Union, 3X Nominated Emmy Makeup Artist and 1 time Emmy Winner, PMAC Honoree for Television. I have been so blessed to be able to work in the film and television industry and to be around creative, fun and beautiful people.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
HA! Nope!!!!! I found out the expensive way that being a small business owner wasn’t easy. I was not ready at 100%. Also, learning the art of maintaining great work relationships was an experience. My journey road was not that hard because I have always had the support of my husband, family and a few close friends, but outside sources made it bumpy. But that is part of growing to be who and what you become. My biggest struggle was to not take anything personal.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bridgit Crider Makeup – what should we know?
My business is the art of makeup… I am a freelance makeup artist. I specialize in continuous learning and building of my craft. As a makeup artist, I help create beauty.
My abilities are beauty makeup for print, commercial and television/film, special effects makeup, airbrushing, and Avante’ garde.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First I really have to thank my husband and daughters, they have been and will always be my biggest supporters.
I have several friends and industry associates that have my back and helped me along the way, they know who they are, 🙂 and I so appreciate them.
