Meet East Atlanta Graphic Designer: Adam Caudle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Caudle.

Adam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, art was instilled in me. I lived next to my grandparents and I spent most of my time with them. At their house, there were always pencils, pens, crayons, etc. I was always drawing, scribbling and doodling. That’s where my love and appreciation of art came from. Along with my grandparents, I had many art teachers throughout school that cultivated me into the artist I am today. I owe much of my success to them.

I started to transition from fine art to graphic design towards the end of high school. I completed a few logo designs here and there and before I knew it, I had several people asking me graphics. From there it took off.

I went to Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and then lived in Charlotte for a couple years before moving to Atlanta in January of 2013. My business started off as photography and design, but I stopped offering the photography side of the business to focus on the design side. I found there were a lot of “photographers” flooding the market. That’s where I am today. Here in Atlanta growing my freelance business!

Has it been a smooth road?
My freelance career definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were times where I wanted to hang it up because so many people thought they were designers and were offering services at such a low rate. Sometimes people that don’t understand the creative process and want work done for pennies. That was, and still is discouraging. But my love for graphics and helping people grow still remains.

Is there some part of you work that is particularly difficult?
Time management. Freelancing while also having a full-time position is tough. But I have set up a schedule that I stick to that helps me avoid those problems.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me would come at the end of my life. At the end of my time, I want to have been a person that helped others achieve their goals while positively influencing them. I want to make a lasting impact on people. I don’t want people to remember me by how great my designs were or how I completed a job successfully. I want people to remember the person I was and how I treated them.

What are your plans for the future?
That’s a loaded question! I have so many dreams. I always go by the motto “if your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.” I also like to take one day at a time. Live in the moment and let God guide me down the road He wants me on. If it is starting a successful design agency, then that’s what I’ll do. My heart lies in volunteering, so I have plans to connect the dots between my passion for design and my passion for non-profit work. Who knows where that will lead me, but I’m enjoying the ride so far!
