Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Gentry Vance.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up in the south and college graduate of Ole Miss I learned at a young age fashion was something I truly enjoyed. I’ve always been the creative type, but I never saw the day coming that I would own my jewelry line. The summer of 2014 was when I started creating jewelry for fun and my own personal use. What seemed to be just a fun hobby and a love for handcrafted jewelry, led to my girlfriends loving the jewels as well. Over a couple of glasses of wine, they convinced me to pick a business name and put the jewelry up online. Overnight these jewels were a hit, and ellaZjewels was born!
Please tell us about your art.
I create custom, handcrafted jewelry – ranging from bracelets & necklaces to rings & earrings. Each piece is personally crafted by me which I feel makes the jewelry even more special. I find that making jewelry is almost therapeutic, being able to take a collection of beads or a spool of wire & create it into something that is unique and no one else has. I want people to wear my jewelry with pride knowing that it did not come out of a large factory where you will never know who made it but instead the piece came from me.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Just have fun with it! As I mentioned before, I feel that making jewelry is a therapy for me. I look forward to creating & taking something from nothing and making it into something beautiful! It is always important to try new things, work with new materials, step out of the box a little bit & get creative!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
They can find more information on my website – www.ellazjewels.com or my Instagram @ellazjewels. I also love to host trunk shows around the city so that people can see my jewelry in person.
