Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Colon

Hi Jonathan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, where I developed a background as a break-dancer and producer in the event industry, influenced by my mother, who was a corporate event planner. Over the last two decades, I have organized more than a thousand public events. My passion for music and dance has always been an integral part of my life. In 2012, I attended the former Counterpoint Music Festival, where I experienced my first silent disco. The unique atmosphere, with attendees enjoying a DJ playing house and EDM music on a single channel, captivated me and inspired me to host silent disco events. That experience sparked my entrepreneurial spirit.

In the following years, I organized public silent disco events featuring three DJs and later worked for a New York-based competitor for three years, which provided me with extensive knowledge of the silent headphone industry. At that time, there were no headphone companies based in Atlanta. What started as public events grew into private functions for colleges, schools, churches, corporate gatherings, fitness events, brand activations, and more.

In 2018, Simon Rimmer, my current business partner at Silence Activations, suggested the idea of establishing a local silent disco headphone company in Atlanta, which led to the creation of Silence in 2019. Although we encountered challenges initially due to COVID-19, we have experienced growth each year since and now serve over 1,500 customer events annually.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We established the business prior to the pandemic and had to adapt from producing live silent disco events to renting our equipment for smaller gatherings. Initially, our focus was primarily on live shows, but we transitioned into a rental service that also accommodates live events. This experience allowed us to explore new opportunities within the industry.

We’ve been impressed with Silence Activations, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We take pride in delivering exceptional customer service, providing sanitized quality equipment, and making your silent headphone vision a reality. Our services extend coast-to-coast, accommodating events wherever they may be held. In the previous year, we successfully supported more than 1,500 client events, overseeing the distribution of 15,000 headphones for events. The event varied in size, accommodating anywhere from 3,500 guests to as few as ten participants. Our objective is to provide an exceptional listening experience for all our clients. In 2024, we facilitated live headphone events in 57 different cities across United States.

Silence Activations specializes in premium headphone-hosted events, delivering a personalized listening experience for various occasions, including dance parties, fitness sessions, corporate and social gatherings, music release events, conferences, walking tours, and movie screenings. Our advanced technology enables attendees to access three or ten audio channels easily via a button on our Silence headphones. These audio sources can include live DJs, live entertainment, pre-recorded DJs, various devices, televisions, live presenters, demonstrations, and more.

We provide both three-channel and ten-channel systems tailored to different events. Guests can switch between music stations or channels according to the event type, whether it is a silent disco or a corporate gathering, as indicated by an LED on their headphones. Our high-quality, noise-canceling wireless headphones deliver crisp and clear audio up to 300 yards away, allowing you to enjoy your event without concerns about noise ordinances. Having hosted over 6,000 events, we can offer live DJs, live entertainment, engaging pre-recorded DJs, visual effects, lighting, televisions, demonstrations, live presenters, and more.

We can enhance your brand visibility with customized die-cut headset logo options. We can print a custom logo or message on each headphone to make your event truly distinctive. We have observed a growing trend in trade shows and conferences utilizing our equipment. Recently, we hosted seven stages in the same room simultaneously at the National Podcast Conference in Washington, D.C.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spending time with my wife, Tasha, and our two dogs, Saki & Sushi. Whitewater paddle boarding rapids on rivers in the mountains. Jumping off the cliffs in Negril, Jamaica, as being in the ocean brings natural endorphins of happiness. I enjoy getting outside, challenging myself, and finding my happy place in nature.
