Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny “The Tin Man” Hoff.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kenny “The Tin Man”. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My wife Michele & I have been salvaging antique tin ceiling tiles from old buildings all over the United States for the past 20. We bring all these old ceilings into our studio in Fayetteville and combine the different parts. we create one-of-a-kind pieces that are functional art for your home.
All of the pieces have the history written on the back as far as where in the country the different ceilings come from. All the pieces are indoor-outdoor friendly they’re all hand done and one of a kind! The same piece you hang on the living room wall you can use as a backsplash in your kitchen or ceiling medallion in your dining room
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Finding the buildings that will let me get the ceilings is always a challenge I never know where these tin ceilings will come from Detroit circa 1927 or Harlowton Mt circa 1903 I just never know what materials I will be working with.
The tin man – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are the only ones who do what we do the way we do it! Michelle and I are artists who specialize in the art of architectural salvage nobody can touch the same piece of salvaged history and turned it into the same thing
Everything is one of a kind I wouldn’t have it any other way that’s what keeps it fun and interesting and keeps our collectors coming back for more!!!!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
When our collectors send us photos of our pieces in there home that is when I feel the most pride and success in what we do. Every piece I make is like one of my babies and when people come to see me at the shows it’s like an adoption agency …. when they bring the pieces home and send me a photo it’s like seeing one of my children thriving in a gorgeous well loved home!!!
