Meet Ketia Daniel of BHM Cleaning Co in Marietta

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ketia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When it comes to my company and my motivation, it all points to my daughter Gianna. God placed her on this earth for me back in 2013. When I first realized that being a single mother was going to be apart of my story, I was beyond terrified and confused. I went back and forth of weighing my options. Continue to stay in a verbally and physically abusive relationship? Or wipe my tears and get off of my butt and find my purpose / calling. I quickly surrounded myself with people who Inspired me. I just had to keep pushing forward.  I then came up with the plan to run BHM Cleaning Co. which happened back in 2017. If you would have asked me back then if running a cleaning business that provided for the state of AL and GA was something I could ever see myself doing, I might have laughed.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting up my own business hasn’t been smooth at all. I started with basically a $20 cleaning kit. I then used my 9-5 job to invest into my business, which was belying challenging at times. I had to definitely give up a few luxuries to be able to do so. Such as nail shop visits, eating out, and etc. Next came finding clients. This started off as being extremely hard. So there were a few times that I volunteered to actually clean for free just to get a few “image shots” to help promote my cleanings. Once I actually landed my first client my entire clientele grew. Word of mouth definitely spread a lot faster than any of my Facebook ads. I feel as if I’m genuinely good at what I do, I just needed a few clients so that I could show them. Once this happened I had to give myself some type of motto to go by. It was simply to “Treat and clean for these people as you would your own house.” Cleaning has always be pretty easy for me, but the hardest part came when I had to make the decision to hire help. It was a HUGE struggle keep up with the demand. It’s hard to find trustworthy workers that represent your company well. I definitely learned to understand and appreciate the HR Department at other jobs that I’ve worked. Now I see why there’s hoops that you have to jump through prior to being hired onto anyone’s company. I was able to hire on 1 person that checked all of the boxes. After approximately 11 months of praying to find more trustworthy workers we expanded from 1 to 5 in total.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that there’s 2 main essentials when it comes to success. Willpower and determination. I’ve learned both of these line up with my faith in God himself. For anyone that’s looking to start a business, I say to find what you’re passionate about, make it unique, and don’t ever give up on yourself. Most entrepreneurs consider themselves to be Self-Made, I always say that I’m God-Made. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without him.
