Meet Latisha Russell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latisha Russell. Latisha and her team share her story with us below.

Please kick things off for us with the background on Latisha.
SPEAKER – MENTOR – AUTHOR, Latisha B. Russell is a recognized figure on the topic of child sexual abuse. Speaking from a platform of her own harrowing experiences, she has made it her mission to inspire children of sexual trauma by sharing her story of triumph through perseverance and resilience.

A voice for the voiceless, Latisha considerately navigates the, often raw, sensibilities and effects of sexual abuse with fragile victims, their parent(s) or guardian(s) and others who may need assistance in navigating this taboo, grim topic. After having experienced a “Tisha Talk”, many walk away with renewed confidence and vigor knowing that they, too, can overcome the shame, the story, just as she has done!

Latisha Was a victim of child sexual abuse beginning at the young age of seven by the hands of a trusted family member. Not only dealing with the sexual abuse but rejection once she decided to share her story. This was the moment that began to shape Latisha’s path. Not only did Latisha deal with child sexual abuse, but she also dealt with physical and emotional abuse. Latisha is now a SURVIVOR!

Though delicate subject matter (child sexual abuse/trauma/exploitation), Latisha speaks from a cellular place, the heart with each topic thoughtfully crafted. No matter the audience, her mission: to reconcile the trauma, restore hope and relieve the stigma.

• Latisha is More Than her Story: One woman’s journey on overcoming child sexual abuse, healing relationships and reclaiming her power.

“Safety and security don’t just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment.
We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.”
— Nelson Mandela | former President of South Africa, civil rights champion, global ambassador
“We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that she/he is someone today.”
— Stacia Tauscher | dancer and artist

STATISTICS |
• Every 92 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted
• Every 9 minutes, the victim is a child

Has it been a smooth road?
Latisha’s journey has been far from smooth, Never fully addressing what happened to her, one punch after another, she was left to deal with the turmoil on her own. From depression to thoughts of suicide, Latisha never felt she had a support system to help her through the difficulties in navigating this thing we call LIFE. Latisha got by in life always being 5 steps ahead, guards up, always preparing for the worse in an effort to NEVER be hurt again. Later on in life, Latisha realized, this wasn’t the way to live. She finally looked in the mirror and realized in order to truly heal, you must use what has happened to you and began pouring into others. From that moment, Latisha stopped asking “Why me” and began asking “Why not me?” As a result, Latisha serves as a mentor, an advocate and a speaker. She will be releasing her first memoir entitled “The Naked Truth, From Pain to Triumph” in November 2019.

What else should we know?
With an emphasis in the field of child sexual trauma and abuse, Latisha’s mission is to advocate on behalf of children and parents who need to develop the language and life skills to reclaim their power after such life-altering physical and psychological damage.

Latisha’s personal experiences in sexual trauma and abuse along with her professional and educational backgrounds in human resource management and development uniquely position her to aid others in the areas of healing and living forward–beyond the secrets that hold us hostage–just as she has done.

Latisha couldn’t be more proud of the legacy that she is now creating for herself and her beautiful daughters; permission and power to speak boldly, live unapologetically and in truth with abundant love for self and advocacy for others.
