Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis San Roman
Hi Luis , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all begin in like 5th grade when I started to develop my own musical taste and with my allowance money instead of buying a toy or something like I usually did I went and got my first music cd the “now that’s what you call music” series and I did it because I enjoyed listening to music and always kept my tv on mun2 or mtv1,2,tres. Always watching music videos and being so influenced by breaking dance and just that whole style! I first wanted to be a break dancer or a graffiti artist but always drawn towards that whole rap vibe. I make it rain by fat joe and lil Wayne changed my life! You got served! All that and then I began to get these songs and use the same flows and structures and just insert my own 5th grader words. But it was always there! I wrote like 3 songs. Then life took me and I went with the flow. Played soccer lived as a teenager burning cds of limewire and listening to my mp3 player. Early on I was influenced by so many, lil wayne don Omar arcángel Kanye west Justin Timberlake just always something different but something drew me to rap. So I went on and one day I was skipping school, 10th grade in the back of a car in my own world. And it hit me something in my soul, it was like a divine sign, god spoke to my higher self to let me know what my mission was, my purpose, my passion, and something told me to start writing music again. The thing is I was never in band or orchestra, I played soccer I talked to girls I partied I was too busy trying to be popular. I didn’t know where to start. But I began writing raps every day. I began listening to every rapper. I was studying everyone. And I went to my first concert, Kanye and Jay z watch the throne. Changed my life forever! I told my self that if I was going to be an artist I had to put shows on like that. From there on one of my best friends older brothers got a little studio setup and we all started freestyling and rapping and making random songs but the thing was I could write lyrics for days but I had no flow!! No rhythm at all! Like I could not understand or grasp the concept of flow. I found it so fascinating how people could flow so easily over beats and what not. And I remember my sister got me a book called “how to rap” and from there I embarked on a new journey! I spent day in and day out studying. I would study all the greats, every song every flow every syllable every delivery style! And I went on and invested into my own little studio setup when I was 17. I knew I wasn’t ready to go and record in an actual studio even though my soul was. I had to catch up! And I’ve always been so interested in the whole process from writing to recording producing mixing, everything I really enjoy being part of the whole process and being the director and producer of my vision. I took some classes my remaining years of high school, a little brief music production and music theory and bam I graduated. I knew what I wanted to become but you know the pressures of life family the idea of college just becoming more free after high school just takes you on another journey of its own. But no matter what I stayed committed! I would go to cyphers around the city I would write and record songs all the time. I would mix everything myself. A lot of trial and error for years until one night I recorded this new song. Late at night too. I was alone, it was probably like 2 in the morning or something and bam!!! After I heard it back a 1000 times something in my soul told me like “yo you just reached a new level in your artistry” and I come from a place where my parents worked hard as fuhhh to provide for us and let us know it wasn’t easy and we had to earn our way. And they always pushed for us to get good grades and go to college and get degrees in technical fields. And I loved it and all but it wasn’t me. I was born to create to be an artist, to be one of the greatest artists of all time. It was difficult for them to accept that and I had a lot of resistance from so many around me. No one really every rooted or believed in me like I did. I always had the vision always had this faith that I knew and still know this is my destiny. And I’ve stood strong with my faith in myself and god to carry me thru and today I have so many people around me my family my friends strangers so many people that see what I see and believe. I’ve worked hard to get where I’m at now and I still feel like it’s just the beginning. I started uploading on SoundCloud first. Finally learned how to upload to Spotify and Apple Music on my own and started uploading on there. Now I have 4 full projects out! A lot of solo songs. I preform all over Atlanta and I put on for my city!! I love collaborating with other artists I love creating! I have a record label called REBLLL RECORDS. And I know it’ll be one of the biggest of all time!! Pushing the envelope with a whole new level of music style production live shows. Everything!! I’m so excited for where I’m at and where I’m going. And it’s only the beginning, such a beautiful beginning!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a tough road!! Especially as an artist and being new to the whole thing!! I’m self taught in many ways but I also learn from so much as well! Life happens family happens traumas happen so much happens in between the process of creation and becoming who I am as an artist. And becoming who I am today but at the same time I love how tough of the road it has been because it has made me so prepared so grateful for every single little detail! The long lonely nights the days of being blocked from creative flow. To the nights where you’re just flowing so much in between. Love life death of loved ones. But everything has been building me and leading me gracefully.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a music artist, producer, sound engineer, creator, visionary, I’m me to my fullest extent. I specialize in sound in design and bring vision to life. Anything that has to do with creating really. Film style life love. I’m so proud of everything I’ve done from my “worst” song to my “best” song. Every lyric every idea. Every moment on stage in the studio sharing it with the people I love and listening to it on my own. I think what sets me apart from others sometimes is my perspective, my passion for reaching new heights and creating music that no one’s every thought of before and doing things that leaves people in awe and wanting more. Also that I’ve learned and learn everyday on how to be myself to the fullest extent in everything I do.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The importance of time, family alone time, time at home time in nature. Just how beautiful it is to be in a place where you have to create.
