Meet Mike FLIZZY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike FLIZZY.

Mike, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
For me, everything began on the Eastside of Detroit, Michigan. It’s the story you always hear my mom raised me and my five siblings by herself. It was hard but no harder than anyone else growing up there, but I’m grateful because it molded me into the person and artist that I am today. I was there for 15 years until she decided that my siblings and I would have a better chance to succeed in Georgia. She picked me up from school after my final in my junior year of high school and moved us to Riverdale, and that was 12 years ago. I thank her. It’s been the greatest thing that could have ever happened to me.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a recording artist. I started off strictly rapping, but as I grow, I find myself making more experimental music. Music has always been there for me, at my highest points of life and at my absolute lowest. What really drove me to rap was Tupac. I remember being so alone as a kid and his words made me feel like I wasn’t the only person feeling the feelings I felt. I have been writing raps since I was about ten years old, and I been recording for 8. I pull inspiration from life, love, and pain to me those are three things that are true to everyone no matter what color, religion, or nationality. I make really introspective and self-reflective music. It’s extremely honest because I feel my story, my woes, my sins, my triumphs, and mistakes may help someone else or make them feel better about themselves. When people hear a Mike FLIZZY record, I want them to say “Damn, I felt that” whether it makes you laugh, dance, or cry my mission is to touch the listener in some way.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Not exactly, an artist job to me has always been to expand the perception of the audience. I’m apart of the matrix no matter how conscious I am; I still consume mass amounts of information on the daily. So the things that go on in the world and around me always find its way into my music. If we are all in the storm together, I’m there with the listener you know? We seeing the same thing, and these words and beats might make you look at the world differently, or my mess ups in the storm might help you survive longer

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can find me everywhere lol. I have multiple projects on Bandcamp, and DatPiff just search Mike FLIZZY. SoundCloud would be the best way to keep up because I’m always dropping something new. All I ask is that you listen to my work with an open mind and an open heart, and if you like it tell a friend, my music is for the people. If you love it spread the love, the universe will handle the rest.
