Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Manggrum.
Rachel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my holistic healing journey when I was 19 and decided to get my massage therapy certification. A year later, I went to school for Colon Hydrotherapy after being offered a position to manage a holistic cleansing center in the West End area where they provided colonics and massage services. It was a perfect fit for me because it was at a time in my life of self-healing and transformation.
Most of my childhood going into my teenage years, I battled with digestive and weight gain issues. While in massage therapy school, I started learning about different holistic modalities (colonics being one of them) and I changed my diet. I had lost close to 60 pounds by the time I graduated. When I started to learn more about colon hydrotherapy and how it can naturally help with issues like constipation, weight gain, and eczema; issues that I struggled with most of my life up until that point. I was like “signed me up!” During the time period of learning and getting colonics for myself I lost another 40 lbs and my eczema cleared up. So, when I started working at the holistic cleansing center at 21 yrs old, I was able to truly relate and put my heart into helping clients on their own cleansing journey. After five years of serving and building great relationships with my clients; I called myself going into “retirement”. I decided to move out of the country for two years, but when I came back I moved into a totally different career as a Flight Attendant with a small Regional Airline. 18 years after I 1st began my wholistic career The Most High has brought me right back to where I started. Destiny is everything if you have enough faith to follow it!!!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road I’ve been on has definitely had its twist and turns… bumps and cracks… rocks and sticks… but in the same token parts of the road that have been so smooth that I didn’t even know I was still on it.
In 2015, I decided to get a 2nd certification in Colon Hydrotherapy, but it wasn’t time for me to start back yet. I wasn’t ready to let go of flying. It was comfortable, it was a guaranteed paycheck, and it had benefits. In 2017 the regional airline I flew for announced that they lost their contracts with the three major airlines they were subsidiaries with for years. They informed the flight attendants that a furlough (lay off) would ensue over the course of the following year…..and just like that… in Oct 2018 I was furloughed after 10 1/2 years of flying. We were just given the ability to apply for unemployment without a severance package.
The Most High had to pull that rug from underneath me to make me realize what I was really supposed to do. Dec 2018, I decided to take what savings I had to purchase a colonic device. The manufacture told me if I drove to Texas it would save me several hundred dollars in S&H. So, I rented a truck and drove 15 hrs to San Antonio, TX by myself to get the device and drove back. At that point, I didn’t even know where I was going to open up shop. I just knew I was supposed to do it and I wanted to be able to offer the services in South Atlanta. After looking at a few places that were out of my budget, which I didn’t have much of, but I did have plenty of faith at the end of Jan of last year, some friends of mine so happen to drive by a newly renovated building that was up for rent. I went to see it the next day walked in and knew that was it. I applied and two weeks later on my birthday I was approved. When I went to apply for my business license It turned out that the lady in the office that assisted me was an old client of mine for 15 years prior. When she realized who I was she said “I often wondered what happened to you. I haven’t had a good colonic since you gave me one!” I was in Awe! I had no idea that I had left that kind of impression.
This month of March marks my one year anniversary. I started out with a few clients a week to now booked at least a week ahead in such a short period of time. I appreciate my clients for their support!
Again, the road to get here has been far from easy. At this time more than ever I don’t know where the road will turn. What I do know is that having the faith of a mustard seed and staying align with my purpose that the blessings will come for what is meant to be.
