Today we’d like to introduce you to Rahsheeda Hicks.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always held a special place in my heart for giving back to communities. My first event was a family fun day called “Spring on the Fun” where families came out and enjoyed a day of games, music, and food; things just grew from there. My events focus on building partnerships, networking and shining a spotlight on small business owners.
I started to host the Annual Black Business Expo four years ago. I initially thought I would have less than 30 people that would attend. I rented a small barbershop in downtown Orlando; Barbers were still cutting hair as I had 15 vendors packed in between them. Over 100 attendees showed up! I was overwhelmed with joy as the local community came out to support local business owners and someone who had never put on an exhibition before. I continued to produce more events as my following grew and I’m proud to say that it was all worth it knowing that I have been able to shine the spotlight on local business owners and nonprofits.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I try not to let that deter me. The financial struggle is real. Events cost money, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll make your money back. Speakers or vendors might back out at the last minute so backup plans are a must. There’s no guarantee that the number of people you were hoping for will come out and you can’t control mother nature. I’ve learned that I just have to keep pressing on.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fauxrox Productions LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
