Meet Ray Anderson Jr. of Steez Fiendz in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Anderson Jr.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ray. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started liking clothes and style when I was really young, around 2nd grade. I always knew that I wanted to have a clothing brand. I used to look up to people like Puff Daddy and Pharrell Williams because the bridged the gap from the music industry to the fashion world and that really stood out to me. I grew up playing a lot baseball and football and the uniform and the fashion aspect of sports were super exciting to me.

As I got older I started getting into streetwear and by the time I was in high school I was wearing a lot of 10Deep, Stussy, BBC, and Bape (when I could afford it). Fast forward to 2012, me and one of my best friends started re-selling all type of hype wear. We would buy a bunch of pairs of Air Jordans, and other highly sought brands like Supreme, and sell them online to people. One day we decided to start our own brand and that’s when we came up with Steez Fiendz. We created the brand at the end of 2012 and by the end of 2013, we were selling live on our website and in our first store.

On the business start upside of things, I started getting into it because it was sort of a piggyback off of my mom’s accounting company. Also, a really good way to earn some money for myself. I have legitimized over 200 small businesses and helped turn a lot of people into business owners.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been a lot of struggles but none that we didn’t benefit from later. I like to call the struggles learning curves because anything that I’ve ever done for the first time probably didn’t go perfectly as planned. It took literally a year of two of having to learn how to do business with other people. Nowadays I have a formula for everything that I do and if something needs to be changed or updated, it’s not so shocking, everything is pretty smooth.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Steez Fiendz is a clothing company based out of Atlanta, GA. We’ve been in business for almost seven years. I run the company with my business partner Erick Gaylord and our design team. I do a lot when it comes to the day to day functions of the brand but what I specialize in is designing products and sales. We’re known for our bold and edgy designs, from our OG logo to our Mania logo. When you see it you will definitely remember and recognize it the next time.

I am really proud of the fact that we’re still around and still striving for more. Back when we started, there were so many young brands popping up that are nowhere to be found now. Just being able to do what I love is a good feeling and I’m proud of Steez Fiendz for allowing me to do that.

I think what sets us apart from other brands is how we mix streetwear with athletics to create pieces that are authentic to us as creative athletes. Everything that we do has a story behind it. Also, we create what we would like to wear and have faith that our following will love to own the finished product.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Atlanta is a great city to do any type of business. While starting a clothing brand I believe that it’s really important to build a solid support group so when you do your first drops you have people to sell to. As you grow, you’ll start venturing out to more people that you didn’t know before and if you sell good products your support group will continue to grow. I truly think the A is a good place to work but the real mission is to go nationwide and global.

That’s the plan!

Are you the Ray Anderson who lived in Summerhill as a teenager? I was a librarian at Georgia Hill Branch in the 1990s and was wondering about how Ray grew up!
