Rontaveus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off working with my mother who had a preservation company cleaning homes on foreclosures in 2009. We would go and clean the entire property inside and out. After a couple of years of working with her, I knew I could run my own business doing the same. Fast forward two years, I started my own company with my mother’s help and we ran both together with the same crew and equipment. At the time, my company was named RTR Lawn and Cleaning services. Fast forward another two years, I felt I outgrew my mom’s presence and set out alone, I also felt the preservation business was no longer the route I wanted to continue down. In 2013, I changed my company name to Rich Lawn Services, LLC and strictly focused on lawn and landscaping. With the help of my wife (Fiancé at the time), she took out a loan on our future! I bought all the equipment I needed and went to work with the same crew that me and my mom split down the middle. Best decision of my life. I got to where I am today by making friends with the right people, by taking pride in my work, by choosing quality over quantity, and by just grinding my ass off!
Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely has not been a smooth ride. Some of the struggles that all business owners will tell you is “it’s hard to find good help”. That statement is so true. Other struggles are just learning the industry, such as pricing. Still struggle with that a little now that I’m doing bigger jobs.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rich Lawn Services, LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is a Lawn and Landscaping company. We specialize in Lawn Maintenance (commercial or residential), Decorative Curbing, Landscape designs and installs. In the south Fulton area, I’m mostly known for my decorative curbing and lawn maintenance. We service a lot of clients in that area. The thing I’m most proud of is my decorative curbing side of the business. Not a lot of companies do it in GA. So, it sets us apart as well. Back in 2015, I have seen a house I was servicing with this border around the home and didn’t know what it was. After some tough researching, I found a company in FL who would teach me how to install it. I was horrified when I first started, but after a lot of sweating and determination, I figured it out and now is killing all our curbing jobs in half the time as when we started.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love most about our city is growth! With that growth comes more homes which is more work for me. It’s so many grass cutting companies out here in GA but still not enough to keep up with demand. What I hate least about the city is the traffic. Anytime I go to Atlanta, it has to be early around 9-10 am. Always start my day out farthest and make my way in, so I’m closer to home when the day is over.
