Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Threlkeld.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
After a 30-year career in nursing, I put down the syringe and picked up a paintbrush. I started a design business and that inspired me to start painting.
I participated in a neighborhood show and a retailer noticed my work and invited me to place my art in her shop.
That was almost 4 years ago and I have not stopped working since. I am now a professional artist.
Please tell us about your art.
My work is mostly large-scale abstract using mixed media. Each piece begins with a layer of gel medium which creates texture. I am inspired by earth elements, design, and architecture. My hope is that the viewer feels a sense of peace and joy when looking at my work.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
Today’s economy is ripe for artists. Many collectors have started collecting art again. Many cities promote and encourage artists by supporting art festivals, fundraisers, and galleries.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My work can be seen in several fine retailers and galleries throughout the Southeast.
