Sissi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I started to write my blog in 2013, I truly had no clue about blogging at all! I simply wanted to share my insights on how to get free beauty samples. I thought it was annoying and difficult to get free beauty samples in the U.S. (compared to Germany where I would simply ask for them in a department store – without getting “the look”). Hence, the name of my blog: beauty4free2u.com. Get it? “Beauty for FREE to you!” 😉
This first article opened up so many doors – it was unbelievable. I was for example invited to an interview to New York – all expenses paid and even got a little “model” contract with a company. My blog quickly turned into a beauty blog for the mature beauty community, filled with skincare, makeup reviews, tutorials or whatever else popped into my mind! One harmless article changed my life and turned a hobby into a business!
Has it been a smooth road?
Overall, this was a very smooth ride because I did not plan on becoming a blogger – it just happened!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My blog is one of the top 100 beauty blogs on the web and has been featured by Blogher, Shespeaks, Lucky Magazine and by Glamour Magazine. I specialize in beauty tips for women over 40.
What sets me apart from other bloggers is that I pay special attention to the ingredients of skin care products – rather than just a brand name. What really matters are the ingredients and I often share affordable “dupes” for well known expensive products.
My reviews reflect my honest opinions which can be sometimes not very flattering for some brands – however, it is the truth! But I also always include a little humor in my articles too! Beauty should not be taken too seriously!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely love how diverse Atlanta is! There are so many cultures mixed together. As a native German, I feel so very welcome in this city! I also think Atlanta has so much to offer! There are so many things that I haven´t seen yet, so my to-do list is enormous! You can’t get bored here! I was just in “The Lips” – a drag queen show that was very entertaining! We also just visited the building where Elton John lives! The Swan house is amazingly romantic! I could go on an on!
The one thing that I don’t like about Atlanta is the traffic!
