Today we’d like to introduce you to Suede Cassidy, Ian Boyd and Jeremiah Percival.
Suede, Ian and Jeremiah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Suede Cassidy started when Jeremiah called Ian one day and said, “Ian – you have horrible beats. Like really, just awful. Let me help you out.” Ian agreed to meet with Jeremiah and do some music workshopping of sorts. So the two got together for a session. While Jeremiah was showing Ian his production chops, Ian started to sing a little tune on top. And it all clicked – that night they recorded 15 songs together.
And so originally, Ian was the singer and Jeremiah was handling all the production in the group. They continued recording music, and quickly created a library of about 50 songs over the course of a month. Then – disaster struck.
All the music they had amassed lived on a single hard drive on Jeremiah’s computer. One evening, during a particularly rocking session, Ian spilled a 40 oz Miller High Life onto Jeremiah’s computer and caused a short circuit MESS. All their music, all their work – gone in a flash.
Ian had picked up smoking cigarettes over the course of these initial sessions, and so when Jeremiah and Ian went back to try and re-record their songs – Ian’s voice had been distorted by the harsh cigarette smoking and party rocking.
At this point – Jeremiah and Ian realized what had to be done. What if they switched? And thus, that’s how Suede Cassidy came to be known as the line up it is today – with Ian handling production, and Jeremiah taking the role of lead singer/song writer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So smooth. Not any problems, man. Just all good vibes, ya know? Except for when Jeremiah threatened to quit the band over a money dispute. Ian was keeping an extra cut of all streaming revenue, and trying to pull a fast one on Jeremiah. Jeremiah went through Ian’s laptop one evening and discovered the rotten truth. After a brief confrontation, Ian agreed to forfeit all streaming revenue from Suede Cassidy to Jeremiah to compensate for the mistrust.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
We are mostly known for causing a scene at most of the shows we play. Unlike other bands, we try to create as much on stage, interpersonal drama as possible. Ian and Jeremiah have focused on creating a toxic relationship between themselves, and it shows on stage.
