Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Young.
Hi Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I love when people ask me, “ where did you get the idea to start your business?” They’re waiting for this wonderful story like other entrepreneurs: of how they come from generations of business owners or how they started building furniture with their dad in the garage as a kid or how they practiced doing hair on their aunts and uncles. My story is different. My story begins with lack. There’s something about lack that takes creativity and ingenuity to a whole Other level. I grew up in a single parent household in Decatur, Georgia, where my mom worked two jobs to take care of three children. One morning, At the age of 14, I could hear her shaking my piggy bank in the morning for our lunch money; which was already discount lunch. All day at school I heard the clinking of my piggy bank in my head. When I got off the school bus that day and I got off at the bus stop and instead of making a right to go home, I made a left and walked through the trees to the highway to Applebee’s. I asked for an application, they asked me how old I was, and I replied, “ how old do I need to be?” Lol. They hired me on the spot and from that moment on, I knew how to change my circumstances from lack to living. Fast-forward 15 years, I completed college and had many successes in corporate America and adventured on to start my own business and even had a tv show on The OWN Network, “Party at Tiffany’s”. As With many other women, I took a chance on love and lost. I lost it all. One year later I was divorced, a single mother, and I found myself once again, having to. change my circumstances from lack to living. After much healing, I knew this next venture had to heal me and help others at the same time. So I came up with a business concept of everything I wanted as a child, and everything I needed as a woman. It consisted of a spa for pampering, a test Kitchen for baking and cooking, a craft room for creativity, a fashion house with over 1000 costumes, a tea room to share stories, a movie theater for chick flicks & Disney movies, and a Goody bag mall for shopping. I also had a one-year-old son from the marriage and we needed somewhere to stay. So I created two hotel suites for guest to stay overnight and for he and I to have living quarters. That’s another wonderful element; my son’s journey through all of this. He helped in the day to day operations until he was old enough for me to create a division for himself in the ‘acting and performing’ sector; PH Studios. He’s been in 4 feature films, 6 tv shows, commercials, etc. That’s Tiffany & Carter. That’s the story of lack to living. That’s the story of THE PINK HOTEL. My journey may not have been pretty, but my PINK HOTEL sure is.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish lol. From pipes bursting to city ordinances, I felt everywhere I turned there was a fixing, a fine or a fee. But in the 16 years, I’ve always overcome them. And honestly, I have no explanation other than God of why I’m still here. Because I, as a person, am soft. I cry in movies, I cry after visiting family, I cry when others cry. When I’m working on movie scripts with my son, he’ll ask me, ‘ Mom how are you able to cry so easily? lol if he only knew that’s from years of experience, lol. Business requires a tough cookie, that’s how I know God fought every battle because there was no one to care about my tears, no arms to fall in, and no one coming to save me. I just knew not to quit. That was my super power. Others quit. Stronger people quit. NON-CRYERS quit! Not quitting was my advantage even though I cried my whole way through lol.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for keeping His word with me. The Word.
Second, I’d like to thank my parents. My mother may not have had the time/understanding to teach me all the things that we now know about self love, but she led by example in every way. She taught me to be disciplined, driven, committed, responsible, to love the Lord, and to keep my body to myself.
Next, My community. Through the ups and downs, every time I opened my business and closes my business, they always found me and supported me. I was always honest about my struggles, my brokenness, and my fears, and they still supported me. I never felt embarrassed because so many people reached out and said they were secretly going through the same things. And that let me know that I was not alone; as though I had ‘silent partners’ all over the world. That’s worth more than financial investors sometimes.
And last, but not least, I want to thank my son, Carter. There is something about his touch and his voice and his face that makes me say: GET UP. KEEP GOING. NO ONE‘S COMING. WE’RE ALL WE’VE GOT. REMEMBER WHY YOU STARTED. YOU CAN DO THIS. I’m so proud of what he’s doing in his acting career and I look forward to providing continuous support as we’ve always done for each other. He’s the greatest support system I could ever have.
