Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Toccara Greene.
K. Toccara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been intrigued by the beauty industry and makeup as a child. After years of contemplating, I made a list of things that I always wanted to do but never executed. Being a makeup artist was on that list so I signed up for a makeup artistry course and the rest is history.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been challenges along this road of becoming a makeup artist and staple in the beauty industry. My advice to anyone who is interested in being in the industry is to remember that you are your brand! The way that you present yourself and your confidence is very important. Always leave a positive and lasting impression where ever you go. It will take you far.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a certified makeup artist and student esthetician. I specialize in everyday beauty with an emphasis on healthy skincare. I believe that great makeup starts with great skincare. This involves a holistic approach inclusive of mind, body, and spirit.
I am proud that I can serve every day!
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice on networking is carry your business cards everywhere and have an “elevator” speech about your business. Additionally, researching people and organizations whose focus is similar to yours is important. I have learned that people love teaching. Ask questions!
