Meet Valeria Porter of Virtuously Gifted Salon in Lawrenceville, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeria Porter.

Valeria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At a very young age, I realized that I had the gift and passion to style hair. However, it wasn’t until later in life that I decided to pursue it as a career. I am also a gifted musician. I have been playing the piano since the age of five. I have played for several churches and school choirs. I continue to provide music for weddings, funerals, birthdays, and other special occasions.

I always felt that my hands were anointed to do great things. My father would always say, “You got the gift…all you got to do is use it!” With that in mind, I combined both of my passions and launched Virtuously Gifted ~ The Musician Beautician.

Has it been a smooth road?
With the support of my family, I can say that this has been a smooth road. When I told my husband that I wanted to follow my passion as a hairstylist, he was all in. To prove how serious I was, I went to cosmetology school without missing one single day, and I graduated Valedictorian of my class. I was successfully able to balance my life as a wife, mother, and student with ease.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the Master Stylist and owner of Virtuously Gifted Salon. I am a graduate of Georgia Career Institute’s Master Cosmetology Program and Cosmetology Instructor Program. I hold a BS degree in Biology from Georgia College & State University as well as an MBA degree in Managerial Leadership from Piedmont College.

I primarily specialize in caring for natural hair. Virtuously Gifted Salon is a place where my clients can come and enjoy a private and relaxing one-on-one experience with me personally. My main goal to provide a variety of hair care services to clients with medium to long length hair. I strive to educate my clients on how to properly care for and maintain their own hair, as well as recommend products to keep their hair looking its best. I also aim to build a long term relationship with my clients and be readily available as they embark upon discovering how versatile and exciting their hair can be.

What sets me apart from others is the fact that I continuously educate myself. Learning from other stylists and educators in this industry gets me excited, keeps me motivated, and eager to pass along what I’ve learned to my clients. I constantly study, practice, attend classes to improve myself so that I can be the best I can be in this field.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Most definitely! Atlanta and the surrounding areas are full of opportunities. I myself stepped out on faith and went to a place that was very unfamiliar to me. I started with ZERO clients and didn’t know anybody in the area.

However, with the proper marketing manager and tools needed for success, I was able to brand myself and grow my business above and beyond what I expected, just after one year!
