Today we’d like to introduce you to Ambriana Gober
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey in media as a college student at Kennesaw State University, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Communications Media and Entertainment studies. In my freshman year, I chose Public speaking as a class to take and my professor at the time told me I have a great voice for radio. I went back to my dorm room did research and scheduled an appointment with my advisor and switched my major the following day. I chose this major after switching from nursing. I hated science, especially chemistry so I knew immediately that nursing wasn’t my route. From then on I wanted to be in media. I had a niche for social media that got me into Social media management.
Following my graduation, I had career-related opportunities to work as a freelance social media manager for small businesses alongside working for the DeKalb County Commissioners office where I served as the Communications and Marketing liaison for the Commissioner of District 5. During my time there, I published press releases and managed all social media accounts. This was a great start for my Media Journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t been the easiest pursuing radio, but nothing worth having is honestly. I have met some amazing people who have given me great opportunities, but sometimes if the right opportunity hasn’t presented itself, it is your job to create it. This is why I decided to create my podcast called “The Fly Girl Podcast”. Fly is an acronym that stands for First Love Yourself. I chose this name because to become or do anything in this life it starts with loving yourself and building the confidence to pursue your dreams.
Starting a podcast can sound easy but I have learned a lot being a one-woman show. From creating topics to formulating questions and finding guests, all the way to filming and editing. And don’t get me started on researching the equipment you need to produce quality content to begin. But I have found my groove and I am excited to see my growth as I continue forward.
Starting my podcast has been rewarding in more ways than one because it has strengthened my skills and increased my critical thinking skills tremendously.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in being an interview host. I recently started my podcast at the end of May this year. May 29th to be exact. I am proud of this because this was something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time but was nervous and battling self-doubt. What sets me apart from others is my ability to make everyone feel comfortable or “at home” I get told this a lot. Ever since I was a child I was a talker and I believe this is one of the gifts God has given me because I can talk to anyone. I was a great student K-12 but I would often only get into trouble for talking. Ultimately, I would consider myself a social butterfly.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that surprises most people who don’t know me, would be my optimism. I always try to see the brighter side of things. Especially as a creative, you have to be optimistic. The bad teaches you how to navigate tough situations and aids you as a student to one day be a great teacher for someone else.
