Rising Stars: Meet Promise Oti-Okardie of Statesboro, Georgia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Promise Oti-Okardie.

Hi Promise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Promise, also known as Ayebapriye. I’m a lifestyle content creator with a special love for food and travel.

I started creating content about five years ago, inspired by the humorous and relatable moments in my everyday life. Whether it was a funny encounter or an unexpected twist in a normal day, I loved capturing and sharing those moments in a way that made people laugh or say, “Same!”

Over time, my creativity evolved, and so did my interests. I began exploring the world around me, one plate and one place at a time. That’s when I started to document my food and travel experiences, blending my knack for storytelling with my curiosity for new cultures and cuisines. What began as spontaneous, funny posts turned into a passion for sharing honest reviews, hidden gems, and memorable adventures.

It’s been a fulfilling journey so far, and I’m excited to keep creating content that’s not only entertaining but also useful and inspiring to others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part, it’s been a really enjoyable and rewarding journey. Creating content is something I genuinely love, so it rarely feels like “work” in the traditional sense. Connecting with people, telling stories, and sharing new experiences has brought me so much fulfillment over the years.

That said, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was moving to a new country and trying to adjust, not just personally, but creatively. The audience, trends, and even humor are different, so I’m learning how to adapt my content style while staying true to my voice. It’s been a process of experimenting, learning, and growing.

On top of that, balancing content creation with school and work responsibilities hasn’t been easy. There were times I felt stretched thin, and consistency became a challenge. But I’ve learned to give myself grace, prioritize rest, and plan smarter, not harder.

Through it all, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made and excited for what’s to come. Every challenge has helped me become a more resilient creator, and I’m just getting started.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In addition to being a content creator, I have a background in digital marketing, where I worked as a Senior Account Manager. That experience gave me the opportunity to manage and execute campaigns for major global brands like Nike and Meta in Africa. It taught me the power of storytelling, strategy, and community—skills I now bring into my work as a creator.

What I’m most proud of is how I’ve been able to bring my professional experience in digital marketing into my content creation journey. Working with global brands has taught me how to craft campaigns that connect with people—and now, I apply that same intentionality to my personal content. Whether I’m telling a story through a food review or a day-in-my-life video, I always think about how it makes people feel and what value it brings. I think what sets me apart is my ability to merge creativity with strategy, making content that’s not just relatable, but impactful.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
As a communications and leadership major, I’m always drawn to resources that help me become a better communicator, both personally and professionally. One book I’m currently reading is Conversational Intelligence by Judith E. Glaser. It explains the science behind how conversations shape relationships, trust, and collaboration, and it’s really helped me become more intentional about how I connect with others.

On the marketing side, I love following Mad Over Marketing (M.O.M). They do a great job breaking down the strategy and storytelling behind well-known campaigns in a way that’s insightful and easy to digest. It keeps me inspired and helps me stay sharp creatively.

Whether it’s through books or bite-sized content, I’m always looking for ways to grow and bring more depth to my work, both as a creator and communicator.
