Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAndre Weaver.
DeAndre, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I actually got into photography from wanting to become a movie director. I love a good story that has great visuals. Of course, I tried my hand at moviemaking, and it is still one of my goals, but one thing I noticed is that a movie is thousands of pictures glued together with sound. So in 2018, I made the decision to bring the same feeling I felt from watching a great movie…to looking at beautiful pictures. From there I’ve experienced a great amount of joy photographing subjects all around Atlanta.
When I received my camera as an investment gift from my then girlfriend now wife in 2016, I hate to admit it, but it collected a lot of dust. There are even times when I considered just selling it or even pawning it, but thank God I didn’t. Being able to use my gift of photography has allowed me to go to new places, meet new people, and even get an interview with VoyageATL! I know there is much more to come.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m known as a photographer, but I practice both photography and videography. I try and create images that are a work of art utilizing people and architecture. It’s very personal because with each image you get a glimpse into how I see the world through my eyes at that moment. The camera is just the means of transferring that vision. As my slogan goes “I don’t want to shoot your pictures or videos. I want to make your moments into art pieces.”
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I think the biggest challenge facing artists today is comparison. It’s extremely easy to put out content to the public, therefore, it’s also extremely easy to compare yourself to other artists. Art is personal, and it shouldn’t be devalued by a false sense of competition or measured by the number of likes and followers. It can be very easy to get discouraged, but whatever art form is your passion I think as long as you stay true to it overcoming it is very possible. Inspiration not comparison is the key.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
