Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Carlson.
Lance, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was raised by a family that believed art was an important facet of a full life. I remember plein air outings where each of us were painting or drawing at an easel (except for me, who was rolling around in the grass)
As I grew up, I chose architecture as my form of expression. At some point in the profession I realized that you give up a lot of freedom in the architectural process (especially with limited budgets/fees).
I started taking a painting class at some point in my career and rediscovered that love of the creative process which is a strong constant in art.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
A R T I S T ‘S STATEMENT
Throughout recorded history, man has explored the connections between his perceived world of events, emotions and environment. He has utilized music, art and literature as a voice of expression. The beauty and rhythms of these connections seem to synchronize and play out over time to form a significant socio-cultural record.
My work is a record of the connections and relationships that I have discovered within my own perceived world, through music, art and literature. This process may start on a somewhat literal level but it soon evolves into new discoveries and interpretations unbounded by conventional time. My marks and imagery form the rhythm of this dialogue.
My art is personal and expresses beauty and energy and contains elements of scale and meaning on several levels.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
The role of artists is as vast as the number of individuals out there creating. Some is political, some is created to shock or move the dial…ultimately my goal is to create something pleasing and beautiful that won’t bore after its seen/understood…but continues to provide new discoveries, joy and levels of understanding.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I am past president and a founding member of the Atlanta Collage Society and also consistent member of the Shadow line Artist Group. I show with these groups throughout the metro Atlanta area. I’ve had gallery associations in the past and have shown work in New York, Chicago, San Diego and other locations in the U.S. I have a blog, www.lcartist.blogspot.com and one can find me on Facebook under Lance Carlson, Mixed Media Artist But most consistently you can see my work on Instagram where I post as Lmikec and tag my art #lcartist.
