Today we’d like to introduce you to CiCi Renee.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been creating for eight years now. My love for art was instilled in me from a young age. I knew that pursuing the arts would be my path for life. It all truly started when I started playing drums with my father, who was a drummer. We used to perform together all the time. From there, I was active in music up until the end of high school. Music is still a big part of me, especially in my creative process.
My sophomore year of high school was the moment I fell in love with photography. I was in art class and I wanted to explore something different. I was not interested in drawing or painting. From that moment of realization, it all blossomed from there. I was doing photo shoots with friends and a lot of experimental self-portrait work. I decided this is what makes me happy and I want to pursue this and now here I am as a 2019 graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design. I have many different gigs as most artists do and I am actively working towards my goal of owning a studio space and darkroom.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, with life, there will always be challenges that we must overcome and that truly resonates with my story. I have had my share of doubts and creative blocks. What truly grounds me is knowing that I have the confidence that I am capable to achieve my dreams and also knowing the process of getting there is all apart of the journey.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fine art photographer specializing in people and unique landscapes, with a style consisting of colorful and unconventional imagery. My work incorporates color, texture, and text. I primarily shoot with medium format. I am most proud of how my work has grown to have a consistent style. I feel like no matter what I shoot, it will always emulate the core of my style.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I love to make playlists for fun, it is one of my happiest moments of the day. I pretty much have a playlist for any setting and mood at this point.
