Check Out Akil Mccoy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akil Mccoy.

Hi Akil, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Who is Akilaface? We can’t address who I am without talking about who I was. I grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In 2012, I dropped out of college but in 2015 I began a professional career in cosmetics. The game-changer was my first Bronner Brother show that same year, beating nine professionals out for the top spot in the competition.

I would consider myself a charismatic, entertaining, badass… born a thousand years ago.

An evolution in human form. “Akil” is more than this body. I know God put me here for a reason so I’m constantly evolving. Not just an artist but one who came from less. People tell me I inspire them. But it’s about stamping the black culture. I hope just like my artwork, the site is a platform that strengthens you professionally and challenges your enemy.

Or whatever Quesha. -Akilaface-

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles were of course learning money management, and upkeep of my products, rude clients (the ones who don’t respect your time or price), dropping out of college not knowing my true purpose, fake friends, and fake industry friends. People who want to use you for their benefit. And all those secrets in between in Hollywood only a few know.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I consider myself an artist. I see the world and imitate it in my work. Because life imitates art always. I am known for giving A list stars that special Hollywood glam. Very dreamy, glowing, unique, raw beauty. I am proud of my accomplishments being able to have worked with Vogue, Dior Beauty, and Hyde Beauty. Seeing my work on major brand platforms and being respected for my black art. What sets me apart is I am the first of my kind. A black man who does elite beauty and who still stands strong in my art and culture. Being very transparent and fresh for the next generation to take a piece from. Of course, still becoming great is a never-ending thing.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Don’t ever give up on what you love doing. Trust the process of your creativity and skill. Past present and future are all connected. It’s 1 thing. So in due time what’s for you will be yours, stay out of others’ business and tend to yours and talk to God every day.
