Check Out Amy Brown’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Brown.

Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, Hello There! My name is Amy Brown. I live in Atlanta and I do Stand-Up Comedy. I started 6 years ago as a creative outlet, but now I’m completely obsessed. I call my comedic style Nerdy Dirty Comedy or #nerdydirtycomedy if you are on Instagram. The “Nerdy” part derives from my being a musical theater nerd and my husband being a Physicist. We are at opposite ends of the nerd spectrum, but boy-oh-boy we have fun. My jokes are a love letter to all the nerds out there in the world living their best lives. The“Dirty”part is a heads-up that my material is not rated G. Wink.

On stage (and in real life for that matter) I am expressive, warm and a little bit naughty. When people come to see me perform, I want them to have a great night and leave feeling good. Come giggle with me! I host a monthly show at the Distillery for Modern Art in Chamblee called Top Shelf Comedy (check my website for dates www.amybrowncomedy.com).

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest obstacle I am finding these days is getting the word out about my shows. Social media posts are unreliable, often folks are bummed to find out they missed seeing me when I was in their town. To try to fix that, I have started “Online Updates,” which is just a sexy way to say an email list. I have it set up so people can put in their location, allowing me to email them directly when I am coming to their town.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
If you love comedy, check out my podcast called Nerdy For. I interview local and touring comics and ask them what they are nerdy for. New episodes drop every Tuesday. Guests so far include Learnmore Jonasi, Caitlin Peluffo, Lace Larabee, Katherine Blanford & Paul Ollinger. You can find the video version on my Youtube page (Amy Brown Comedy) and the audio wherever you listen.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I am extremely grateful that my family is supportive of me pursuing this adventure. I have so much fun traveling and meeting new people, it helps to know that my kids and my husband are cool with me being away. I think they might actually enjoy it, because when I’m out of town I can’t constantly nag them to help me find my phone.
