Check Out Hannah Carroll’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Carroll.

Hi Hannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had some graphic design experience since the age of 12 when I first discovered Adobe Photoshop. I played around with it for a bit, but never really looked back until the pandemic hit in 2020. I had my own business which I had to make my own graphics for, but COVID caused a halt in business so I was stuck. I couldn’t go off to college anymore because the pandemic had restricted travel & created additional financial issues, and as a result, I needed something to do in order to benefit me for an entire gap year. I enjoyed doing graphics, so I decided to start getting into Photoshop again. A friend of mine, who was more experienced than I was, gave me some pointers, and we did a 1 on 1 lesson. From there, everything else was self-taught. This year will make 2 years since I’ve started graphic design full-time, while also being a full-time college student going into my sophomore year. It took a lot or hard work & dedication, with lots of focus, but here I am!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There definitely were some inevitable bumps in the road. In the graphic design industry, you’ll definitely encounter some clients who make your job a bit more difficult. It can affect you negatively because you’re trying to do your best to satisfy your customers & they’re simply hard to satisfy. It also gets discouraging when other designers mimic & sometimes copy exactly what you’ve created. They say imitation is flattery, but in the field we’re in, it’s more so annoying than it is flattering.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a self-taught graphic designer specializing in brand styling & content creation. I also do website/logo development!

The industry has presented me with a lot of opportunities. My most recent, and probably my favorite would have to be working with Monaleo! She’s an upcoming female rapper & we did some birthday content for her events; she absolutely loved everything & so did I!

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come if I’m being honest. Because I’ve worked so hard to perfect my craft, I was able to put myself through my first year of college; that’s also something that sets me apart from other people. I’m able to provide for & depend on myself for most, if not all, of my needs. I’m only 18, so I’m excited to see what else I can accomplish by the time I turn 21!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Whenever I’m working, or doing anything, really, I play music. It keeps me driven & boosts my mood so I stay focused & motivated to finish my projects. My favorite artists that I listen to while I work are Lil Durk, Moneybagg Yo, Summer Walker, Mariah the Scientist & Youngboy Never Broke Again.
