Check Out Jacob Lynn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Lynn.

Hi Jacob, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I played baseball and football for many years. In school, I was viewed as nothing other than a jock. I was kicked out of my high school theater class because the teacher didn’t think I was serious enough about it. I continued playing baseball through college and even played semi-professionally, but when that was over, I decided to go to an acting class in Savannah, where I discovered that I really do love acting, I started off doing a lot of student films, as I believe most actors do. When I moved to Atlanta from Savannah things started to really pick up for me. I found a great agent — Gina Henry with MI Talent — and started booking more and more. Now, I get to travel all over the country doing what I love.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When I lived in Savannah, I was signed with a scam agency. I didn’t know anything about the industry or how things work, so I signed with a woman who charged a ton of money to be a part of the agency, go on big “showcase” trips, and pay for in-house headshots from her husband. When I realized that wasn’t right, I was very discouraged. Soon, I found an acting class in Savannah and learned how to build my own career. The biggest struggle for me has been rejection. I wasn’t used to not being the star of the show, so not hearing back about an audition I had worked really hard on was tough at first. There were a lot of times I thought about throwing in the towel. But now, I’ve learned that not every part is right for me and I have to keep pushing through the lulls.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Most of the roles I’ve gotten have been the antagonist, which I love. I have a lot of fun preparing for and filming those kinds of characters. What I’m most proud of is the fact that now I’m getting to play the parts that I would most enjoy watching on TV. It’s taken a lot of hard work, but I’m really proud of the work I’ve done to get to where I am now.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Well, I wouldn’t say I’m a risk taker when it comes to activities like extreme sports. I have, however, taken a lot of bets on myself. I grew up a baseball player and I bet that I would play in college and professionally and it kind of paid off. Then after baseball, I took a gamble on being an actor and in the same way it’s also started to pay off. I would say that risks can be mitigated in life with preparation and hard but smart work.
