Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamiere Wilson.
Jamiere, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a lifelong skateboarder, Ilikethursdays started as a personal page where I shared my skateboarding videos with friends. Skate videos are an important part of skateboarding culture that I fell in love with. My love for music would influence whatever skateboard video I wanted to make. Over time, my skateboard videos became more intricate and gained local traction. This led me to fall in love with filmmaking/photography as a whole during middle school (2013-2016). As I began to experiment with more film/photo techniques, I began producing content outside of skateboarding. My love for music eventually led me down the path of creating music videos. During high school, I began to produce music videos for clients and began picking up paid commercial gigs. I spent my high school career developing my skills and building a name for myself. I quickly learned how closely tied the skate world and the music world are.
In 2019, while shooting a music video with Fenix Flexin of Shoreline Mafia in LA, I met Jacob Messex who is a very well-known skate photographer. Seeing him in the studio with Shoreline Mafia reminded me that I am on the right path. This same year, I connected with Beat Street Music Group which is run by Albert Soler, one of the top entertainment lawyers in the music industry. Soler works closely with Havoc of the Infamous Mobb Deep so by 2020 I was fortunate enough to shoot a music video with him in Boca Raton, Florida. In the same year, I was able to travel to Buckhead Atlanta with artist Fully Loaded Stan to shoot a music video for “Trending Topic” with Lil Baby’s artist, Rylo Rodriguez. The following year Fully Loaded Stan and I were back in Atlanta to shoot “At the End of the Day” with late artist Big Scarr of Gucci Mane’s camp. I’m still just trying to build with different artists and organizations within pop culture to create meaningful content and music videos that can push their stories forward. I’m here for the long run.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I have big dreams, I’ve taken things day by day. By focusing on making the best of the present, my future just continues to unfold in my favor. I would say the biggest hurdle on my journey as a creative has been balancing the art and the business. I’m truly passionate about all my projects and partners, but I can’t forget that I’m running a business here.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I tell people’s stories and make them look good while doing it. What sets Ilikethursdays apart from the rest is the dedication and empathy towards anyone I work with. I like to really connect with artists to help them create an image that is worth following while still staying true to them and their values. I specialize in video production, including music videos, commercials, and documentaries. I also do photography and artist management/marketing. I would say that I’m most proud of the network that I’ve been able to build over the years connecting with different people from all over. It’s just a big game of connecting the dots for me while following my heart.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
All my favorite childhood memories come from the skate park. I spent most of my days at Neutaconkanut Park in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Providence. I can’t pick one specific memory because they all equally shaped me into who I am today.
