Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Eze, Nurse Practitioner
Hi Julia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the public relations space began last year. However, for several years prior to this, I worked diligently connecting current and future nurses to resources, recruiters, large brands, influencers and industry stakeholders through my social enterprise, The Nurse Link. Our means of business was predominantly event and expo curation.
The rise of the pandemic obviously halted the potential for in-person events and after a year plus, I decided that a change in direction was best. It was a really tough decision to make but I felt like if I couldn’t do the events the way I truly wanted to, then I didn’t want to compromise the reputation I’d built and would rather circle back around to that at a more definite time in the future.
Once I removed events off the table, I was left wondering what can I do with what I have gained and learned from this business? After giving this some considerable thought, I realized I had been fortunate enough to have gained a wealth of knowledge (and contacts) on the business side working with large brands securing corporate partnerships. I also amassed a great deal of inside experience working with brands and organizations as a creator @thenursejulia
Additionally, I’d built a community of thousands of nurses and health professionals. I felt this collective experience put me in a very unique position to work with both brands and influencers/ creators and from that premise, Absobility Public Relations was born.
In business, I feel I’ve been successful because I’ve chosen endeavors that speak to my experience and passion. I believe this instance is no different and I’m excited to embark on this new journey.
I started this agency to amplify the voice of healthcare organizations, brands and initiatives. We execute this vision by aligning healthcare stakeholders with creative campaigns, event planning and PR representation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been far from easy. I think any time you take a leap and step out on faith you can expect to face some challenges. Giving more energy to finding solutions as opposed to focusing on the problems is key. I’ve learned that in business it’s important to have the mindset that not everyone will support or understand your mission and that’s ok. That said, I’ve faced numerous challenges and growing pains along the way. I’ve even had big brands try to undermine my business and have even had colleagues in my industry downplay my contributions once they found out I was a woman of color etc. etc. But honestly, I’m more focused on where I’m going than where I’ve been. God said that nothing I’ve been through will be wasted!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and I’m extremely passionate about health promotion and disease prevention especially as it relates to minorities and underserved communities. I started my platform to create health content encouraging my audience to incorporate healthy changes in their life.
Over time, I’ve been able to parlay my background and experience as a content creator into a side hustle working on campaigns that promote health equity, awareness, etc. But more importantly, it has and continues to open doors and opportunities to connect with others and be of service to my industry and community.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the diversity in Atlanta- it literally is a melting pot. I also really love the representation of poc in this city. I grew up in Decatur, AL and let’s just say, I didn’t have the privilege of seeing people who looked like me in positions of power so when I moved here, it was a real motivating force.
I’m not gonna lie, the traffic here can be a real headache at times but I’ve figured out most of the back roads so I be swerving! Haha!
