Check Out Kimberly Dean’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Dean.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been that kind of girly girl – the one that has a passion for fashion & girly things like makeup. When I first started my makeup journey back in 2018, it was to fulfill a promise I made to myself in 2017. When I finished high school, I would teach myself how to use makeup. I was always intrigued by what a difference makeup can do to an individual, the enhancement and level of confidence it gives when it’s done. So I started off by watching YouTube videos of different makeup routines and products people use. I was mostly watching the most poppin girls. Such as Aaliyahjay, Jackieaina, Alissa Ashley, Jaclyn hill & and the list goes on. But one thing I noticed it’s really important to find someone who you can relate more too and watch how they do it so I was inspired more by Aaliyahjay – I love her personality, how she applies makeup, different substitutes she used to use and where to buy rather it was high end or drug store and I studied her & makeup for four months and after I got comfortable I told myself I was going to go buy the products and start which I did at Walmart lol. I always recommend doing baby steps because you never know what you need to work on before you gravitate to the big girl makeup such as Laura Mercier, Tarte, and much more. When I realized I got the hang of it, I just kept practicing and practicing and it became my hobby and eventually, it became something I could do for others. I used to practice in my mom’s bathroom and she’d watch me or my best friend would be there and I’d ask for opinions on my face.

As time progressed, I literally mastered it in my own way which is what you want to accomplish in the beauty industry you always want to be yourself and makeup allows you to do that no matter what shade or beauty marks or even blemishes. Makeup allows you to be free and express and let go of whatever you have negative inside. I look at it as a butterfly you never know how pretty you are until you bloom and with makeup, I bloomed into a makeup artist shortly after I was practicing on myself and others and I kept going from there and educating myself along the way. Your supposed to love what you do and I love makeup & I continue to give girls an outlook of how not just an outfit but makeup can make you turn into a whole new you. But it doesn’t stop there. I’ve always been into fashion, fashion history and absent detailed pieces that people wouldn’t usually get and put it together and make it not only vintage but something only you wore. In the fashion world, it’s not all about looking like someone else it’s about what can you add to make it feel like you – I’ve always been into different purses, jewelry, and detailed shoes my favorite brand ever since a little girl was Christian Dior. I’ve always liked the vintage Dior and the history behind it and the classy creativity it’s gives. One day I’d love to be a part of a team to where I’d help orchestrate a clothing brand for fashion week or a certain season my favorite season in the fashion world would be spring because just as the flowers wake up so do new ideas for spring collections which come with the best shades in colors. So yeah, I’m pretty well-rounded and I continue to educate others by saying, “there is no right way – just be you”.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing in life is smooth. I’d always call it a journey because just as you start something, it’ll always be bumps in the road to the finish line but what I would say is don’t ever loose yourself in the process. Hard work pays off and consistency is key. I’ve literally witnessed how good is feels when you stay on top of what’s important to you and the outcome. I would say the biggest struggle I’ve had would be remaining sane through it all because you’ll have your doubts asking yourself is this good enough or will it be perfect but nothings perfect everything teaches you how to be better than yesterday so you just have to keep going no matter how many times you’ve messed up. Failure leads to success, anything too fast is never good.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
What is any business without taking a leap of faith but you have to put that faith in yourself first of course, it’s scary, but your outcome could amaze even you not just the people around you. I’d say the biggest risk I ever took once was buying over $500 worth of makeup and I didn’t have any clientele yet I just believed in myself and stayed consistent and knew I was going to put that makeup to use and I just kept investing in myself. Investing is like a risk itself but what’s better than investing in yourself.
