Today we’d like to introduce you to Maira De Leon.
Hi Maira, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have loved art since before I learned how to speak a word. Drawing and painting have always been a part of me growing up and fast forward to 30 years later, I now get to share that passion with the world by capturing some of the most special moments LIVE during a couple’s most special day– their wedding.
Live wedding painting has shifted the way that I feel about painting a portrait(s). It is no longer about how I feel but how I make others feel by painting a moment they will treasure forever. When I paint, I don’t just transfer what I see onto a canvas… I immerse myself in the environment and surroundings and I transfer that feeling to the brush. It’s truly a magical process.
The best part about what I do is knowing how much happiness and joy it gives my clients. It’s such a beautiful thing to see their faces light up when they see the finished product! And to know that this painting will be cherished for generations to come is truly the best feeling. I create art that lives forever– what?! It’s insane. I am humbled. I am honored. I am forever grateful to God for giving me such an extraordinary gift.
I painted my first wedding in March of 2020 and my business has grown exponentially ever since. As much as I love painting at weddings, that is not the only thing I paint– I am a muralist and I love to paint florals and portraits that reflect my Mexican background and heritage.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are not very many obstacles I faced with this business on the art side of things as it comes natural to me.
On the business side, I’ve learned to: 1. Always over-prepare when traveling outside of the state. 2. Make connections with my clients via video or phone call prior to the event, this is essential to the entire process. 3. Charge my worth and be confident in everything I do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fine-art artist, muralist and live wedding painter. I believe that painting that beautiful, significant moment during a couple’s wedding is the most unique way to capture their special day. A live painting experience will leave brides, grooms and their loved ones/guests reminiscing of their memorable wedding for decades to come.
I am based out of North Georgia but I can travel anywhere! I have painted live in Colorado, California, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Mexico, North Carolina, Utah, Michigan and all over Georgia. I am dedicated to creating inspiring, gorgeous and timeless artworks that will be treasured forever.
I want the world to know that this is not only one of, if not the most unique ways to capture a wedding… but it is also a great way to entertain the guests! I love this part so much because I get to interact with different people from all walks of life and sometimes, get to know bits and pieces of their artist side. It’s a memory that will last a lifetime, not only for the bride and groom but for me as well.
