Today we’d like to introduce you to Markisha Goodman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a hairstylist and I wanted to do more in my business to make woman feel like a queen by adding to their beauty. I was selling paparazzi jewelry, and was like I can just make my own jewelry. My mom said to me one day “Why don’t you just make your own jewelry?” So, I started before my son passed away a year ago. I could not sleep at night so I used to be up all night making jewelry and started creating so many new things. I was in the process of making my own gloss before my son passed away and I was telling him. Before he passed he said “Mama you can do it!” So, I started Naturally U! From there, I decided to add nail polish and eyeshadow. I have a thrift shop I started online live on Facebook during the pandemic after my aunt passed away. My aunt had so many beautiful name brand clothes, a lot of new items, and I didn’t want her things to just go to a thrift shop so I decided to open my own called my closet to yours. I was always told my gifts and business are in my hands. I never in a million years thought I would be here coming from being a teen mom. I just wanted to make women feel beautiful and like a queen. From here, there is no telling what’s next. They say the sky is the limit, but my limits are when I am no longer here, so I will keep going.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been smooth, because I had to deal with my son’s death, that made me want to give up at times, but I knew people needed me and my boys to keep me motivated, and I know Isaiah would want me to keep pushing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do different things haha. In my hair business, I specialize in taking care of the hair. That’s what I am known for there.

In my makeup business, I wanted to make sure your lips stayed moist, and when you applied the first time you don’t have to keep applying, and also you can use my gloss as an eyeshadow. I just love what I do and it’s my passion and not a job. I make everything in love, and with my own two hands, that’s what sets me apart.
I grew up not loving me and not embracing my beauty so I always just wanted to make women see the beauty in them through me because I knew what it felt like to not embrace my beauty now I do!
I am proud of me because I came from being a teen mom single parent. I came from overcoming being told by a teacher in high school “You can’t do this”. That stuck with me and now I pushed myself and my family until I could.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To never let someone tell you that you can’t, and embrace the beauty in you!
