Check Out Savannah Harris’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Harris.

Savannah Harris

Savannah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I knew this question would come and it has been the one on my mind the most on how I was going to go about answering it, so here we go! I have always had such a love for makeup. When I was nine, I received an iPod touch for Christmas. I would set up the camera in my lap and pretend I was making Youtube tutorials on how I do my makeup. (Let us just be thankful they never made it that far). Back in 2017, my mother had Cardiac Arrest, landing her in a coma in the hospital for several months. Growing up one of my favorite memories with her is always watching her sit on her bedroom floor putting her makeup on in the mornings. In that time of her being away, makeup felt the closest to her for me. I packed up all my makeup and sat in the hospital waiting room creating all types of looks. Thankfully my mom came out better than the doctors were expecting and she is one of my biggest supporters! Fast forward, I started creating TikTok and Instagram reels of me doing/transitions of my makeup looks. I had several people for years ask for me to do their makeup for homecomings, proms, special events, etc.

I have always had such a fascination with the way makeup can enhance specific features on the face, and I had a passion for learning it all, self-taught on myself. Until I saw a post on Instagram of a current MUA here in GA and only 10 mins down the street, say she is looking for an assistant. TRAINING INCLUDED! Now knowing what I do now, not much training was needed, it was confidence. Homecomings and proms were the biggest events I have done and now I am going to start training and doing weddings ?!?!?! Sounds like a lot of pressure. My first wedding working with Caley brought on a lot of nerves. Thinking what if I mess this up, if they don’t like it, if they get mad and yell at me. The normal nerve thoughts. As soon as I stepped in and grabbed a brush, they all washed away. I was so comfortable. CONFIDENT even! I knew makeup was something I have loved from a young age, but in that moment it felt like my future.

I remember a while back I heard a quote, I’m not sure who said it thinking back now but it really sets in. “The way to figure out your passion is taking something you’re good at and something you loved as a kid and combine them” Lucky for me, not only was makeup what I loved, but so were people. My number one problem when I was a student in school is no matter how many times my teachers would move me, I would still make friends and someone to talk to. I am grateful for that now because in the industry, it’s not only how skilled you are with a makeup brush. It’s also about the connections you have with the one holding it. And if you ask any of my old teachers, I can talk to a brick wall!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Truthfully yes. SO FAR! When I started, I began working as a head assistant for Beauty by Caley Cline. She literally paved the way for me starting out. Helped me create my price sheet, invoicing methods, building my website, etc. She really took me under her wing. I am very grateful to her for the help she provided for me at the beginning. I am still working with her some to this day, and she will always be a friend!

Building a kit, having a place to create the looks, and actually branding yourself has been the more difficult part. When you are in this industry, most of us do the same thing, maybe not down to the details, but we all know how to do makeup. The tricky part is how you set yourself apart from the rest to truly be successful, and that part tends to be a bit bumpy.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Makeup Artist, Specializing in bridal, known for my cut creases that shimmer! I am most proud of myself. The amount I have grown in such a short time and still being very early in my career. Watching my makeup looks drastically change for the better after every face, to my confidence in walking up knowing you trust me to doll you up on your big day, that’s a great feeling! One to be proud of!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Making people feel confident in their own skin. Growing up and even now, I have always been on the heavier side. Kids, teens, and even adults can be so mean about one’s appearance. The fascinating thing about makeup is the way you can be unique and creative while also enhancing certain features on someone. If I have the skills to show someone how truly beautiful they really are, with a nude lip and some lashes, that is all I could ever ask for!
