Check Out Shamaya Staton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamaya Staton.

Hi Shamaya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am from Philadelphia. I started making clothes in 2014/2015. I started off making tie dye shirts. 2015 I went to CAU homecoming and made bleached/distressed apparel. Everyone liked it so I sold out every time I posted. I than came up with the clothing line “Secure The Bag Apparel” I sold everything I made instantly. Thats when I branched off and starting making custom clothes as well. Stuff people wanted made for their brand, graduation shirts, birthday shirts, party shirts, tablecloths, anything you could think of I was stamping logos on it! I sold so much I was able to own a store with my friend the owner of “Love & Loyalty Clothing TM” the store was a success but unfortunate circumstances caused us to close. I still continued to grind. In 2020 I moved to Atlanta & by 2021, I obtained my LLC for “Maya Diction LLC” I go by “ Maya” and people love my clothes and always come back for more, hint MY ADDICTION / Maya Diction. I still continue to do clothes, not so much secure the bag but custom printing is still my thing! I make customized jewelry and I am also an up and coming rapper so I like to use my music to promote my many talents!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road is never smooth. As my tattoo says, “Without struggle there is no progress”. When I first made Secure the Bag I did not know the ends and outs of business and found people constantly stealing the name, my ideas, and more. Often times I felt discouraged that my ideas were not as good compared to other people’s work. I have had machines break on me all kinds of issues. Although they lead to me being such a great custom printer / graphic designer/rapper, I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a rapper/artist who has her own clothing line (Secure The Bag Apparel). Who also specializes in vinyl / heat transfer printing. I also sell customized jewelry. I am most proud of the way I can inspire others and help bring their visions/ideas to life. I see myself as different than others. I don’t copy other’s work I always generate creative work from my own mind and add my own twist to things. That’s with music, jewelry and clothes!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is my family / friends & my boyfriend. When everything else fails I can always depend on them to have my back. I know when you die, you can’t take anything with you, but I will be ok knowing that I lived my life and made memories with the people who mattered to me the most, the people who pushed me and motivated me and stayed on my case, the people who never turned their back on me. Money comes and go but REAL FAMILY AND FRIENDS & MY BOYFRIEND ARE HERE FOREVER! My ummi carried me for nine months you would think shed be tired of me she is still always by my side!
