Check out Ruby Stone’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby Stone.

Ruby, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve lived in Atlanta pretty much all my life and have been drawing/creating just as long. I’m really just you’re average black nerd girl with a bunch of crafts and a dream.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I do a lot of things. If I haven’t done it, I could probably pick it up relatively fast. For the most part, I draw comics and character designs, and I craft with yarn. Those are my main mediums. I draw inspiration for being in Atlanta almost all my life. Have you seen this place? It’s, like, the epicenter of artistic expression. The fashion, the culture, the architecture, the people. I never not pull inspiration from living here. I hope that when people see anything I create, I hope they see that I love Atlanta.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Depends on what you’re doing, really. It depends on how much you want to put yourself out there. I know a lot of artists and creators that are doing amazing, wonderful things! Atlanta is a great place to be an artist because the right people will appreciate it and support you.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I’m working on a website at the moment, but until that’s finished, you can see my work on my Instagram and also (I think) in the Punk Black zine. If people want to support me, I’d ask them to follow me on social media, share my work. I do commissions.

Your artwork is dope. Your style is really refreshing. I wish you would use your talent at an animation… like a short animated film. I love Atlanta too… you’re making me want to move there haha.

I could not be more proud of and excited for this home-grown Atlanta artist. I hope to see more from Ruby in the future.
