Check out Terese Young’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terese Young.

Terese, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I used to draw pictures on cardboard and give them as gifts to my family when I was little. Even though creating art was always a very natural part of my life, I never grew up believing it was even an option to do as a profession. It wasn’t until I was living in Edinburgh, Scotland w my now husband, who pushed hard for me to pursue it, that I flipped that switch in my head. I bounced back and forth between the corporate world, motherhood and life as an artist for years. I finally got to a point where identifying as an artist was as comforting and crucial to my identity as breathing…

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I do abstract acrylic paintings. I started doing portraits but got completely burned out. It just encouraged a more critical eye because I tried to get everything so exact. I switched to abstract after my daughter was born and haven’t looked back since.

I’m obsessed w color. I LOVE experimenting w how they react off each other. My paintings usually always combine very soft, ethereal blending w more deliberate, strong brush strokes. They also tend to mix very bold colors w serene, natural tones. I won’t call a piece finished until I feel like it all flows together.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Whether creating it or viewing it, art can really take you to another place. Given the current environment and all the chaos in the world today, how can that not hold more value during times when things are more unsettled?!

I’m VERY affected by my surroundings and a bit sensitive to negative energy around me. The more yuck I sense out in the world, the more effort I put into creating a peaceful bubble within my home. Music is a huge part of that! I always paint to music. It usually cleanses me from any of that yuck that may have snuck in… And if it doesn’t, I put down the brush that day…

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My art can be found at Beau Studio in ADAC, Peridot West on Howell Mill, my Instagram or Facebook painting page.

Love the serenity of your work – it invites one to turn off the negativity and bask in the peace and joy.
