Community Highlights: Meet Alexus Levant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexus Levant.

Hi Alexus, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Levant apparel is the product of an individual’s spiritual, artistic, self-discovery journey.

Ever since I was in college, I had the divine idea of having Levant as a major name brand. While I attended Oglethorpe University, I always found myself nourishing my artistic side by drawing/sketching, visiting art galas, creative directing, modeling. In embracing my creativity, my idea for Levant was born.

However, I held this idea for three years. I thought about it almost every day. But it wasn’t until about a year and a half into my airforce enlistment after I graduated from language school that I decided to take action on my dream. With the help of Fatima from Hous 11, I was able to build a strong business foundation and create my first launch within four months.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With any business endeavor, there are many challenges and uncertainties. Especially this year during the pandemic! It was intimidating to start a business in 2020 during the recession and the condition of the world.

I was also undergoing rigorous academic and physical military training in addition to college courses. But most importantly, I had to overcome my insecurities of failure. I did this by opening my eyes to all the positive confirmations around me from God. In doing this, I realized that I didn’t want to sabotage myself by not following my dreams. To me, living with regret is worse than the fear of failure.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Levant apparel launched on Black Friday 2020, so my business is fairly new. We have a long way to go, but I am in love with the process. I chose my family name, Levant, for the brand name because it not only sounds luxurious, but it also has a deep meaning.

Levant means “levitate” in French and Spanish. This slogan reminds us to always aim upwards in life to the next level. The Levant, in the middle east, is where the sun rises every day. Just like the sun, I want to give my customers the experience of rising to every occasion when they wear Levant apparel. I want the consumer to feel unique and luxurious while enjoying the high quality pieces and attainable prices. Overall, Levant’s mission is to levitate and elevate it’s consumers.

Levant is also a conscious brand. Every month, we donate to a non-profit or charity. Giving back is important to me because I want to open the door to enriching other people’s lives in any way. For example, 10% of all profits from Black Friday to December 31 were donated to HOPE Atlanta, a charity that is fighting homelessness in Atlanta.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned how powerful it is to take chances on yourself and walk in faith with God. As I learned from one of my coaches Jessica Williams of the Fashionpreneur Academy, “God is my CEO and I am just the manager.”

Also, mentorship and coaching is key. It is more effective to learn directly from experts and get help than to try and do it all by yourself. If Fatima, from Hous 11, didn’t reach out to me and guide me through my journey and brand launch, I would not be where I am; and we are only getting started.
