Community Highlights: Meet Brittany Rice of Be You Counseling Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Rice.

Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was very interested in being a therapist at the age of 16. I watched a close friend go through a traumatic experience where she did not have anyone to speak on her behalf. I wanted to be a voice for individuals that felt helpless and did not have a support system in place. My dream was to have my own mental health agency where I can help individuals navigate through difficult life situations. I went to Georgia State University and received my Bachelor in Social Work and Clark Atlanta University and received my Masters in Social Work. Throughout the years, I worked as a social worker doing case management work. In the past seven years, I worked as a therapist providing psychotherapy to adolescence, adults, and Geriatric clients who has dealt with various mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, identify issues, etc. In 2020, I became A Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I took a leap of faith and opened my own virtual private practice in March 2021. I recently added a new clinician that provides sliding fee rates and in April, I will have an intern that will be providing coping skill groups for the community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey has had its ups and downs. I took my LCSW test three times before I passed it. The second time I failed; tested my faith but I was able to gain motivation to study more and try again. It has almost been a year since my business open and I’m completely full. The biggest struggle was learning how to start and maintain the business. I learned to hire help in order to effectively run my business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
